I am having problems with getting to yahoo mail and being able to do a search on Google. It won't allow me. I 've done system restore twice to access my mail and that helped but now I cant access it again. I've done the online scan and did Search and Destroy in safe mode.

Here's my scan:

Hello tseyigai

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Please reply to this thread only by using the SUBMIT REPLY and DO NOT START A NEW TOPIC or your posts will be all over the forum and we won't be able to keep track of you.

Download VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 ) to your desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) or Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.

Your running the beta version of HJT, you need to delete it and download and install the latest version. Make sure to follow the instructions as it needs to be installed in its own folder and not the desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\HiJackThis_v2.exe <-- Delete this

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe

Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I need to see the Vundo log, the Malwarebytes log and a new HJT log, they most likely will not fit in all one post so take as many SUBMIT REPLIES as you need

I got it fixed, unfortunately I had to use the restore DVD from Gateway. I saved most of my programs and redid some other stuff. Thanks. I had a hard time getting to my homepage or the forum to read your post anyway.

Regards,
Tseyigai

Tseyigai,

Don't know what you did to fix it but the malware could still be present so I would suggest posting a new HJT log and lets make sure its gone.

*Is AVG free Ok to use or suitable as an anti-virus, along with AVG anti-spyware? Or do I need Kaspersky or something else?

tseyigai,

Glad you posted back you still have a marker in your log for the Vundo Trojan. AVG Free is an adequate program but you have Symantec installed and running , you just need one AV program, with AV programs more is not better.

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Post the Malwarebytes log and a new HJT log please

Here's the last logfile below. The reason I mentioned about AVG anti virus is because I had to reinstall everything and since I did, then the Norton was there because it came with the original Gateway back in 04. It's 04 and good till this august, so I guess I can still use it.

Here's the last log file:
