Dear SSD forum,

I have been infected by the Virtumonde trojan. SSD appears to remove it but it seems to repropogate itself on winlogin. My browser is incappacitated, so I can't run the Kaspersky online scan. Windows update has also been disabled and I'm unable to use any restore points. I have run VundoFix, but no infected files are detected. I'm desperate, please help!

Hello bendhill

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Download VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 ) to your desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) or Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.

Your version of HJT is outdated and may not be showing everything, go to the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall it .
C:\Program Files\HijackThis <-- Then delete this if still present

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe

Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Post the Vunofix log, the Malwarebytes log and a new current HJT log by Trendmicro, they most likely will not fit all in one reply so take as many replies as you need by using the SUBMIT REPLY and DO NOT START A NEW TOPIC

Hello,

Do this please

Bendhill,

Not a problem, this stuff can be confusing if your not used to it, and not always but sometimes the older version will not pick up new threats.

Before we go any further I want to point out that you have Two Anti Virus programs running and this is not recommended, in this case more is not better and will actually slow your system down and cause other issues at times, you have Symantec and NOD32, your call but you need to uninstall one of them.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kgfijkiy.dll <--Delete this file

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
It must be saved directly to your desktop.

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
Click on this link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.

IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

Post the Combofix log and a new HJT log please

I've done as instructed. The .dll had to be deleted in safe mode. I also ran Combofix/ATF cleaner in safe mode. Upon restart Symantec still detects trojans. The log from Combofix and Hijackthis follow:

Hello,

Just a bit more to do.

Please download OTMoveIt2 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe) by OldTimer.

Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wtoxevxt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rwwqpbol.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\odcvuhyy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dovnixyv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aneyfdgu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fmdskpdd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxomxcnj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bqvsjrpy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvdadowr.dll

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Post the OTMoveIt log and hopefully your last HJT log

Good Morning,

Did OtMoveIt find and delete those files ? The rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb:

Sorry (again). I thought I had posted the Moveit log as well. From memeory (I'm out at the moment) it did. I realise your time is valuable but I would be fascinated to know what we have been doing with these applications!

I would like to show my appreciation for your efforts. Should I make a donation via payPal?

Many thanks

You basically where infected with the Vundo Trojan but its gone now :bigthumb: By running the programs that you did it removed it. Most bad files will not let you delete them so OtMoveIt removes them in the process of rebooting while there not in use.

Thank you for your offer of a donation, all donations big or small just go to help keep us online cleaning peoples computers.

Everything looks fine now :bigthumb:
