Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Hey Dunc, it has been a while, last contact was here: 2006-12-04, 12:51. Surprise, surprise, you have the same infection and maybe more. There have been changes and I posted them above, they are also pinned (sticky) to the top of the forum.
This infection has not gotten easier to remove, read those directions and post the correct HJT log (your is out of date)

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

I'll need that Kaspersky Online Scan, but you may wait since I know what your infection is. I will request it when I need it, and I may as well post this information for you:
You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

Thanks

Dunc1988

Thanks for returning your information, You have evidence of a posssible Smitfraud infection and none of the Vundo? The hackers have learned to hide their junk from HJT. I need to investigate the Smitfraud infection first. Please proceed like this.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< check for an update, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

2) C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< return here and rename HJT.exe, call it Dunc1988.exe that will work. After a restart we may see the Vundo infection?

3) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

4) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks...Phil

Thanks for returning your information, Smitfraudfix found the infection and it also found this:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
hosts file corrupted !
After we clean, in the next C:\rapport.txt, there may be a very large hosts file (items starting with 127.0.0.1) and I do not need to see it. Edit (remove) it from the C:\rapport.txt before you post it.

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log.

Describe how the computer is performing.

Thanks...Phil

All seems vaguely well now. PC is now running smoothly. Thanks. Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, I can tell you from the junk that is left that you probably also have a Vundo infection. That being the case, it is hard to remove and will require another tool and more work. We will know more when I see the next HJT log. You may remove Smitfraudfix from your computer.

1) C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe <<< this program has been made obsolete by Grisoft, I suggest you uninstall it in Add Remove programs, see this:
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-spyware-and-anti-rootkit

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0E1E7D39-50B1-486C-B16F-9C2AD59979B4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyxWOig.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: qoMdaArR - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qoMdaArR.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoMdaArR.dll <<< delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyxWOig.dll <<< delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\673351\ <<< delete that folder and contents

If you have trouble with those files, give this tool and directions a try:
How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and some feedback from you.

Thanks

I'm having problems with your instruction 5).

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoMdaArR.dll will not delete either normally (hitting the delete button) or using HJT's delete on reboot method. Help!

Yep, the stuff is hard to remove, I was hoping it might happen. Finish the instructions and post a new HJT log and we will use another tool on it.

Thanks

Sorry for the lateness of this reply. I was only able to delete the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\673351\

All others would not be deleted. I've followed all your other instructions however and here is my HJT log:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback.

All others would not be deleted. I've followed all your other instructions however and here is my HJT log:
I understand, just hoping. This is another infection called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vundo_trojan here is a little more information about it when time permits:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/030807-mystery-around-winfixer-slowly-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog
http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/search.aspx?q=winfixer+msn

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Tutorial if needed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Thanks

Just as a quick note. Something is now trying to open browser windows to a 'spyware master' which I'm obviously closing and disconnecting from the net while I wait for your reply. My PC is also now suffering some major slowdown and multiple processes I don't recognize are now running.

Thanks,

Dunc

Thanks for returning your information, proceed like this:

Can you assure me this is a valid program:
C:\Program Files\BUFFALO\NASNAVI\NasNavi.exe

We have some tough files, follow the directions carefully. Everytime there is a problem with the CFScript it is because the member rushed and did not take the time to execute the steps properly, please do not make that mistake.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyxWOig.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoMdaArR.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnlJaxX.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sakruysg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\axytkbpq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlkLed.dll_old
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jktacueu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geBqNdAS.dll
C:\WINDOWS\gnowmebk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\gktxaspm.dll_old
C:\WINDOWS\ednb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mdtgkswr.exe

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {ACE9226B-8B9A-42E3-8327-4568730E7B8C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyxWOig.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BE0FF150-C7FC-4E37-8F92-4E9AF1389238} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoMdaArR.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EA953D6C-40AD-44A6-A4BD-1DD68CB41151} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnlJaxX.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2888bb35] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\sakruysg.dll",b
O20 - Winlogon Notify: qoMdaArR - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qoMdaArR.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix report, a new HJT log and your feedback.

Thanks

Problems seem to mostly have dissapeared. Just to keep you fully informed; after doing combofix I did the HJT scan only you asked me to do, and found only the o20 - Winlogon Notify: qoMdaArR - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qoMdaArR.dll file(which I off course did the fix as per your instruction), all others were already gone. Hopefuly that's a good thing.

Thanks again as always.

You did not tell me what this was that I can see?

Can you assure me this is a valid program:
C:\Program Files\BUFFALO\NASNAVI\NasNavi.exe

The HJT log looks clean of malware, remove combofix and the c:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder from your computer.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks

Nasnavi is my External Hard Drive software...thing...it's cool as far as I know.

I can't do the Kaspersky scan currently via IE or Firefox. When attempting it via IE I'm told my 'Licence Has Expired' and that it 'Failed To Initialize'.

Cheers,

Dunc

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Thanks for returning the scan results, the tool cleaned a lot of junk for you, especially in the Registry. Let's clean those infected System Restore files:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Tell me how the computer is running now.

Thanks

Everything seems to be running as sweet as a moose. Everything I've tried up to now seems to be running far more smoothly than it has in a long while. I'll make sure to drop another donation via paypal at the weekend. I shall see if you guys can be nominated for the Nobel Prize for 'Doing A Brother A Favour'. :D

All the best,

Dunc

Cheers man. I've followed all your helpful instructions and done my best to turn this pc into a veritable fortress. I will also make sure to reprimand the offending culprit who doesn't follow the safety advice I issue for this pc. ;)

Thanks once more, I owe you a beverage.

Much Love,

Dunc
