My name is Victor, and this is my first time posting here on the spybot forums. I've browsed around and read the rules; everyone seems very helpful, and I love this concept of community camaraderie.

Anyway...I was downloading a 311 DVD rip video from Limewire ~1 week ago, and the next morning my computer had a number of problems and ESET Antivirus warnings of trojans and viruses. My Windows AutoUpdate was turned off, and I cannot turn it back on yet to this day.

-ESET NOD32 warnings: Conhook.D, and others
-Windows Defender warnings: many trojan and virus warnings with 'Win32' involved
- Spybot warnings: Virtumonde, DoubleClick, Right Media, Virtumonde.dll, other .dll extensions in the past week
- WinPatrol warnings: many auto-start change warnings from '.dll' files

Below are my Kaspersky and HJT logs. Please help. I am getting pop-up windows, WinPatrol warnings, I cannot enable Windows auto-update, and my overall computer feels slower.

The files: TuvwooMC.dll, uwgcvoni.dll,s, tuvwqopg.dll.old all seem suspect among others.

I am usually pretty tech saavy but attempts at fixing this problem have failed.

Please help.

Hi Victor and welcome to the Safer Networking Forums :)

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log & a fresh hjt log (taken in normal mode) in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

If you have problems with Combofix usage, see here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix)

Thanks for the help so far. I ran ComboFix. After my computer restarted I had two WinPatrol warnings pop up:

1) new startup entry warning: C:\WINDOWS\system32\jxumloyb.dll,b
2) Run a DLL as an app: C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdhuniqb.dll,s

In addition I got an ESET NOD32 warning for:

5/21/2008 2:24:54 AM HTTP filter file http://62.4.83.200/kb713501.exe?&uid=C6BCB126216D11DD9933154032CFFFFF&rid=mm3&guid=702E9B1E738C4B37A9C04AD6E2E35864&affid=154032 Win32/PrivacySet.B trojan connection terminated - quarantined VICTOR\Administrator Threat was detected upon access to web by the application: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe.

Lastly, I got a warning from Windows Defender for:

Trojan:Win32/Conhook.D

I removed this and it was quarantined, but every time I restart my computer it warns me again.

Hi

Please disable Nod and keep it disabled until following steps are done.

Disable also WinPatrol's realtime protection.
Right-click the running icon of Winpatrol in the system tray
Choose exit. It will automatically restart at next boot.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Thank you so much for your help so far Blade. I hope this will result in a clean computer.

I did exactly as instructed, but when I booted back up after the ComboFix restart I received the same Windows Defender warning for the Conhook.D virus and I instructed Windows Defender to "Remove" the file.

Also, my Windows Updates are still turned off and I cannot turn them back on as they are greyed out. The Microsoft website gives me this message when I try to update:

The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is not running:

"Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed)"

In addition, a pop-up window appeared in Mozilla Firefox which redirected my window to a false Anti-Spamware site. I immediately closed the window.

Approximately 20 seconds later I received a warning from ESET NOD:

"5/21/2008 10:25:08 PM HTTP filter file http://62.4.83.200/kb713501.exe?&uid=C6BCB126216D11DD9933154032CFFFFF&rid=mm3&guid=702E9B1E738C4B37A9C04AD6E2E35864&affid=154032 Win32/PrivacySet.B trojan connection terminated - quarantined VICTOR\Administrator Threat was detected upon access to web by the application: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe."

I looked at the ESET NOD logfile for prior attempted attacks, and I noticed that my computer did not have a single infection, attack, or bug until 5/13/08. Hence, I will post each of the 21 entries (from 5/13-today) directly below this paragraph; it may prove useful to you. ***AND not to throw a wrench into the mix, but after I ran my Kaspersky scan I got several new warnings which I will post after a row of "###" symbols below.

Hi

This time we'll do following steps in safe mode (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#02). Please print/save following instructions since you won't be able to access them from safe mode.

Start hjt, do a system scan, check (if found):
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BMdb51a536] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdekgjnu.dll",s
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [d86296aa] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\adpaikhe.dll",b

Close browsers and other windows. Click fix checked.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\essomtrv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gyybginv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlJDsPHB.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdekgjnu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\adpaikhe.dll

Folder::
C:\!KillBox
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\!

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{BBDDE3E0-642B-4256-B0EE-8D7B1ED56D3D}]

Save this as
CFScript

http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/CFScript.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log & a fresh hjt log.

Hi

Delete C:\WINDOWS\BMdb51a536.xml file if found.

Well congrats, it appears your system is all clean Are you still noticing any problems? If not, it's time to secure your system to prevent against further intrusions.

THESE STEPS ARE VERY IMPORTANT

Let's reset system restore
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected. Please note you need Administrator Access to do clean the restore points.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: only do this ONCE,NOT on a regular basis

Now lets uninstall ComboFix:

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

Next we remove all used tools.

Please download OTMoveIt2 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe) and save it to desktop.

Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the
Begin cleanup Process?
prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:

Scroll down to where it says
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

Click the
Download
button to the right.
Select Windows on platform combobox and check the box that says:
Accept License Agreement. Click continue.

The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.

Comodo BOCLEAN (http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html) <= Stop identity thieves from getting personal information. Instantly detects well over 1,000,000 unique, variant and repack malware in total. And it's free.
Download SpywareBlaster
Spyware blaster is a program that stops known malicious activex controls from installing on your computer. It works by changing settings in your registry. It makes
kill bits
in the registry, so that certain activex controls can't install.
If you don't know what activex controls are, see here (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/ActiveX_control.html)
You can download SpywareBlaster here here (http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef)
SpywareBlaster tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html)

Download iespyad
It puts many bad webpages on your restricted zones list. This means that you can still view the
bad
webpages, but the webpages cannot do certain things (such as use javascripts and cookies).
If you need help understanding how it works, there is a tutorial here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial53.html)
Download it here (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/res/ie-spyad.exe)

hosts file:
Every version of windows has a hosts file as part of them. In a very basic sense, they are used to locate webpages. We can customize a hosts file so that it blocks certain webpages. However, it can slow down certain computers. This is why using a hosts file is optional!!
Download it here (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). Make sure you read the instructions on how to install the hosts file. There is a good tutorial here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial51.html)
If you decide to download the hosts file, the slowdown problems can usually be avoided by following these steps:
Click the start button (at the lower left hand corner of your screen) Click run In the dialog box, type services.msc hit enter, then locate dns client Highlight it, then double-click it. On the dropdown box, change the setting from automatic to manual. Click ok

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check this (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html) webpage out.
See here (http://www.freebyte.com/antivirus/#firewalls) to choose one

Just a final reminder for you. I am trying to stress these two points.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! Make sure you do this about every 1-2 weeks.
Make sure all of your security programs are up to date.
Run the spybot and adaware regularly. (Once or twice a week minimum.)
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Once again, please post and tell me how things are going with your system... problems etc.

Have a great day,

Blade, I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to you for all the help you have given to a complete stranger, myself.

My computer seems to be running perfectly smooth and I have not seen any warnings, odd startups, mal-spy ware, viruses, trojans, or anything else bad since your last post. I took all the recommended steps you recommended and restored System Restore as well as updated everything and downloaded everything.

Again, thank you so much.
