Hi, I was reading through this forum and installed and ran VundoFix, I was getting numerous popups from winfixer, winantivirus etc. and they seemed to have stopped. Can I be sure by looking at the below log file? Or do I need to do anything else. It should be noted that Mcafee active scan kept blocking a pup, but spybot SD did not detect. I also noticed that "sidestep" was checked to ignore in the SD settings menu, I unchecked it, but it was not detected in the scan.
Thanks for your time,
VundoFix V4.2.29

Hello and welcome to the forum. It looks like the fix you used worked, but I can't really tell what is going on in the HJT log until you post it. Make sure you follow the directions here:

Does this look okay? One more weird thing, before I ran Vundofix, I was also getting popups when I opened my shared pictures folder in my shared documents. What was that?
Thanks very much for your help, and the service you provide!

Thanks for returning this information. You appear to have word wrap turned on in notepad and my scanner can't scan the log because of that and the doublespaced log. I will work with this one but if you post more please make that change before posting. Thanks
I was also getting popups when I opened my shared pictures folder in my shared documents. Do you have multiple users on this computer? You may try turning this program off in MSConfig: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Share-to-Web Namespace Daemon] c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP
G(G) Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe see this: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-3315.html
I see this running: C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe see this information:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
I suggest you remove it in Add Remove programs. I will remove the HJT lines, ignore the removal if you want to keep this junk.
You will need to turn SpybotSD TeaTimer off until you are done, it will block the fix we must make: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder if there (if you decided to remove it)
C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html
If you don't have a good cleaner, use this one with these instuctions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, add your comments, anything you think will help and tell me how you are running now.
Thanks...Phil

These companies that do this should be sued, it is getting worse! I don't mind commercials, or ads, I even watch a few because they are funny or clever, but taking over ones computer browser is another thing.
I did everything as instructed here and the computer seems to be running fine. I had been using the program Cleanup! (linked from another forum) it is free and seems useful too, but the ccleaner makes that one seem uneccesary...your thoughts?
Thanks a million!

OK Rob:bigthumb: your log looks good, and you are very welcome. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

I am inclined to agree with you, but it is basically hackers who do this stuff, but it is legit business who pay them. If we can find out the names of the businesses and cut off their funds that would do the trick. A grass roots campaign has started in an effort to do this. If you wish to join in, look here:

Cleanup is a good program, I just prefer CCleaner. Try it for a while, make sure to use Issues to get some of the junk out of the registry and be sure to make a backup when you do. There is no reason to have them both on your drives, so uninstall one of them at some point.
System Restore does not know good from bad, it backs up everything. In case some of the infection got into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, restart your computer and turn it back on.

OK Rob and have a great vacation. I should say that the Winfixer infection comes in a variety of forms, best to post a log and let us look at it before you proceed, her infection could be completely different from yours. Sometimes other infections are present that have to be removed first. Just for your information.
Thanks...Phil:)
