View Full Version : Infected with VIRTUMONDE & SPYHUNTER

My computer is infected with multiple things including Spyhunter and Virtumonde. I've run Spybot in safemode several times and each time it removes these 2 items. My computer picks them every time I boot up in regular mode.

I tried to run a Kaspersky scan 3 different times but I have not been able to complete it. It gets between 85-90 % complete and then just closes. Before it closes it states that there are about 30 infected items and 9 viruses.

I also have problems with Internet Explorer running slowly so I have started to use Netscape which seems to run much better. I also use McAfee for anti-virus and firewall protection. Here's my HJT log. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hello Sundance

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

You do have a few issues going on, Spy Hunter is not one of them, its a legit program. Run these in order please and post both logs and a new HJT log when your done with the scans.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) or Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
It must be saved directly to your desktop.

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
Click on this link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.

IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

Okay, I loaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and did the quick scan and then removed everything it found. I rebooted my computer as it recommended to finish the removals and reopened MBAM and copied the log from my scan below. I also reran Hi-jackthis and that log is below also.

I wasn't sure if you wanted me to also run Combofix and include that log in this post but it sounded like you wanted that in a different post. Anyway, it is getting late and I can't finish it tonight. I will try to work on it tomorrow.

Also, when I rebooted my computer I got a Spybot message that appeared about a registry entry being changed and if I wanted to allow it. I did not allow it. It had the following info before I denied it:

Category: System Startup global entry
Change: Value deleted
Entry: BMe3968a44
Old Data: rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rsfgg

Not sure what any of that meant.

Hi,

Forgot to mention to disable the TeaTimer as it will interfere with the fix. Malwarebytes found a lot of the Vundo Trojan files and removed them and Combofix I am sure will find more. You have a marker in your log for a Trojan that has infected legit windows files so its important to run Combofix to clean up that fiasco.

Disable the TeaTimer, you can re enable it when were done if you wish

Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, Click on Tools
Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer.<--You need to do this for it to take effect

Post the Combofix log and a New HJT log please

I disabled my McAfee and Teatimer and ran Combofix. My computer rebooted and produced the log below. I then reran HJT and that log is also below.

When my computer rebooted I also got a couple of error messages. The first said "ERROR LOADING C: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rsfggyfg.dll, the specified module could not be found" and the second was "ERROR LOADING C: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sheyepaw.dll, the specified module could not be found". Not sure if this is a problem or not.

Again, thanks for your help!

Hello,

Your doing very well :bigthumb:

This will fix the error messages

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {997B6F89-A83A-41C2-BCD1-EFA5CA2119E4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcBTNFw.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [e0a5b9d8] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\sheyepaw.dll",b
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rsfggyfg.dll",s

Internet Explorer is needed to run this properly.
Download: DelDomains (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf) and save it to the desktop.

Close all [b]open windows and your browser
Right Click DelDomains.inf and select > Install
Reboot your computer

Lets double check for the trojan that plays with the Windows files, it looks like Combofix took care of it but lets make sure.

Please download FindAWF (http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe) and save it to your desktop

* Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.
* Select option #1 - Scan for bak folders by typing 1 and press 'Enter'
* When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt here.

**Do not run any other option unless directed to do so.**

Post the AWF log and a New HJT log please

I did the HJT scan and fixed the 3 items. I loaded Deldomain and rebooted. I loaded and ran FindAWF and the log is below along with a new HJT log.

This is what we are trying to fix.

You have a downloader trojan called Downloader.Agent.awf or Downloader.Agent.ayy. This trojan replaces legitimate files that are common on most computers with an infected file. It then moves the legitimate file to a "bak" or backup folder. Please follow the directions below to run FindAWF so we can identify the files that have been infected and their backups and then restore them.

Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.

* Select option #2 - Restore files from bak folders by typing 2 and press 'Enter'
* A text file will open up. Please copy/paste the following bolded text into the text file:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak\iTunesHelper.exe"
"C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\bak\ctfmon.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\bak\Reader_sl.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe"

* Close the .txt file and click 'Yes' to save the changes.
* When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad.

Please post the results of the awf.txt here.

Glad things are well, but I overlooked one entry that needs to be removed with HJT. Remove it and reboot, run HJT and check to see if its gone, if not post back as it has to go, let me know.
