Spybot S&D Run In Safe Mode:

Bit of a snag here. The first time around, I removed 2 instances of Virtumonde and 3 of the Virtumonde.dll. The second time around, just one instance of Virtumonde.dll, and this instance continued to show up after successive scans:

SB1 $A65264B2 - C:\windows\system32\opnnIJcd.dll_old

After several tries, I gave up and moved on.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

(thanks for posting the correct information:bigthumb:)

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) is running in Selective Startup, return to Normal Startup until we finish then you can return to SS to save your resources.

3) Almost every problem with this tool is caused when the directions are not followed, please do not do that.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Thanks for returning your information, you had a load of junk hiding that combofix removed. You also have infected System Restore files, do not use System Restore until we clean it later.

I do not know why combofix is reading like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Zach Gaskins\Desktop\WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe

This is from another members log and it is correct:
C:\Documents and Settings\Ahmad\Desktop\ComboFix.exe

Please delete combofix, return to the instructions I posted and follow them. After you do that, then follow these direction. It is very important the directions are followed as posted.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqPhhGW.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\khfEXOGv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nnnmnLFU.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnnlJcd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbXOEurR.dll

Registry::

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{06AA9FDC-10F8-40F5-B0C8-F17769BE83D8}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{22EB48D3-DD2C-429E-961F-C639401E37D1}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{29F74D5B-D0E8-4A3E-B2E7-FE5AC250D8BC}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{44B69923-F41F-422B-AC7E-FE06628D3DB0}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{C383B612-D862-455F-B49C-3FB72D10DD40}]

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06AA9FDC-10F8-40F5-B0C8-F17769BE83D8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqPhhGW.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post the combofix log, a new HijackThis log and tell me how the computer is running.

Thanks

That's because the instructions in the ComboFix tutorial says to drag the MS Recovery Console exe onto the ComboFix icon. Otherwise, I performed everything as instructed.

After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

None of those lines appeared in HJT when I ran it after the ComboFix/CFScript.

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Done.

Things seem to be running normally at this point, and I don't see any strange popups.

That's because the instructions in the ComboFix tutorial says to drag the MS Recovery Console exe onto the ComboFix icon. Otherwise, I performed everything as instructed.
I understand, it is probably best to install RC first in the event of a major issue but I have been waiting until near the end which is why I post the tutorial near the end of the fix. I appreciate the feedback.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< Check Java for an update:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Let's remove combofix: Click *START* then *RUN*
Now type or copy *Combofix /u* in the runbox and click *OK*.
Note the *space* between the *X* and the *U*, it needs to be there.

Run a new Kaspersky Online Scan (KOS) to make sure we missed nothing using these settings:

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan results.

Thanks

0 viruses, 0 infections, 0 suspicious items. Looks all clear!

Thank you lots for stepping me through this. Sounds like you gotta get Virtumonde when it isn't expecting, and kill every head at once...like a hydra. Burn the stumps.

I'll be updating my Java version as well.
