Newbie but used Spybot for a few years.
Never had a problem.
Using an uptodate ver. & updated with no problems.
I believe that I've read all the "Virtumonde" threads.

My problem is wierd and has been going on for a few weeks.
When I scan it shows running botscan, however when it gets to "Virtumonde.dll" the scan stalls and will not proceed no matter how long I leave it running. Experienced this atleast 3 times. All I can do is stop the scan. I appear to have no problems on my system.
Use AVG 8, Lavasoft, A-squared, Defender & superantispyware.
They all run to the end of the scan and find no Vitumonde.

Any ideas why Spybot cannot/will not proceed beyond the bot check for the "Virtumonde.dll"?

It doesn't really mean that you have Virtuemonde on your computer.

Some possible solutions may be:
1. Have you defragmented your drive lately?
2. Go to ADVANCED MODE and go the SETTINGS tab. Find IGNORE PRODUCTS. Find the "virtuemonde.dll" entry. Place a check in the box. Spybot-SD will now ignore this "entry" in future scans.

Are you using the latest version of Spybot? The latest version is 1.5.2.20.

Best not to advise such or people will be putting malware detections in ignore.

philjarrah,

Open Spybot Search & Destroy > Help > About and let us know version and last update.

Also:
Your Operating System.

Use AVG 8, Lavasoft, A-squared, Defender & superantispyware.

How many of these programs have resident real time protection running?

Cheers.

Hi philjarrah,

Real time running on Spybot, AVG8, Defender & Spyware Blaster. Fire wall - Comodo Firewall Pro.
Cheers.

Spybot-S&D's teatimer and Windows Defender continuous safeguard, equals double duty real time protection. It is fine to have more than one anti spyware program, however it would be best to choose one resident RT protection.

Could you run Spybot-S&D in safe mode and see if it completes the scan please.

Best regards.

Hi Tashi,
Nope not dead still alive and learning.
I ran it in safe mode and watched paint dry following the whole scan.
At exactly the same point S&D froze/stalled would not proceed, I left it running for 4 minutes, just in case. It stopped at the same numbers ( I carried out a normal scan prior to the safe mode scan) It stopped at "Running spybot check 134241/159478: Virtumonde.dll"
Would an unistall and a fresh install make any difference?
Standing By.
Best regards.

I hope this helps anyone else who runs into the problem.
I followed another suggestion on one of the other threads with a similar problem and got rid of temp files. The scan froze at another location.
I then uninstalled S&D using S&D, also Win add & remove plus deleted all spybot and tea time files found with Win search.
Downloaded a fresh copy did a compact install, update and SCAN.
It worked, don't know why. Maybe a glitch in my system, who knows.
Many thanks to those who have helped.:)
