Bocks Aol?

I recommended SpyBot S&D to a friend. (my first mistake :))

She installed it on her mothers computer and her Aol ( :laugh:) quit working.

Is it possible Spybot S&D could block a port Aol needs to connect?

Well, I wouldn't consider it a mistake :).

However, Spybot-SD does NOT block ports. It does NOT restrict Internet access either.

What is your OS (Operating System)? What version of Spybot-SD are you using (Go to ADVANCED MODE-->About)?

Also, by any chance are you using TeaTimer?

If that is the cause of the problem, the solution is to undo the immunization for Domains in spybot or to deactivate McAfee SystemGuard.

And yes, the version she installed was using TeaTimer.

To save you some guess work. Yes, I have uninstalled it and re-installed without TeaTimer to no avail.

I have also gone to the menu that allows you to uncheck protection and I did that also ... no luck.

I tried finding a service that might be running and maybe blocking freak'n Aol form working.

I'm ready to do a full un-install (including registry entries)

Try going into Spybot » Immunize. Check just the Domain entries and click the undo button. That will remove the registry entries that are discussed in the article that Bitman (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=74) pointed to.

Sorry but, a couple more questions.

If you install a program, then suddenly it conflicts with another one, why then when uninstalled does it still effect the other program? I have never understood this. Why when uninstalling does the uninstall not COMPLETELY remove all files installed?

In other words, what file/service might be left behind that could be causing issues?

I want to completely remove ALL files installed by Spybot S&D. Does anyone have a full list of Registry files installed?

From your initial post you made it sound as if Spybot was installed and AOL stopped working. It appears that may not necessarily the case.

It appears from the logs you attached that a month may have elapsed between the installation of Spybot when AOL failed (or at least when you reported it did). In relationship to when Spybot was installed on your girl friend's mother's computer, when did the problem with not being able to access AOL occur? What was done using Spybot or any other products between the time Spybot was installed and AOL stopped working (and particularly just prior to when it stopped working)?

Also, specifically what AOL service can not be accessed?
Is AOL the ISP and the system can no longer access the internet?
Is the problem just Email access via the AOL Web service?
Etc.?
The "Checks.080427-1940.txt" that you attached is not the correct log to tell the details of what was actually detected using after Spybot's "Check for problems" and does not indicate what may have been done with a "Fix selected problems" or even if a "Fix selected problems" was ever attempted.

By default here are two Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.txt logs files produced during a scan. The second Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.txt file has the details of what the scan found. A Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.txt log file is produced if you fix or attempt to fix something.

From the time stamps in the "resident.txt" that you attached, it appears that Spybot was installed on or before 4/27/2008. Then starting 5/13/2008 it appears that all TeaTimer dialog messages started being denied. That is why it is important to establish a chronology of what occurred when so that a possible cause/effect can determined.

Aol is the ISP in question. It makes it through the entire loging in proccess, but just goes to a white box (Attempt No. 1 #(######)) and just stalls. without giving any reason. and won't continue.

It does receives a dial tone.

Funny thing is, AOL is the one that told her to delete SpyBot S&D lol!

The log file would normally be there even after uninstalling Spybot unless someone intentionally manually deleted the logs.

Assuming that AOL is installed with McAfee as the default security package:
If Spybot is installed and active, go into Spybot » Immunize (left pane). Make sure the various categories (profiles) of "Domain" are checked, then click the "Undo" button at the top of the right pane. That should remove all the "Domain" entries that apparently affect AOL with McAfee installed according to the article (http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=307211&lc=1033&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1) referenced by Bitman (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=176075&postcount=16).
If Spybot is no longer installed and an immunization "Undo" was not done before it was uninstalled, than I suggest that you (or someone) follow the instructions in that same article referenced provided by Bitman (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=176075&postcount=16) to delete the Internet Explorer Restricted Sites zone entries:
