View Full Version : spybot SD running check, computer reboots.

I am having a problem when spybot SD runs. Spybot gets to 71000 of 159000 and computer reboots. I suspect now a hardware issue, bad ram, bad fan, bad HD or bad power supply. Just to make sure I am posting HJT log, can anyone see an issue showing in log?

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I can not help with hardware issues but may be able to help rule out malware. It appears you are very infected:

C:\Program Files\Nite Manager 32\nm32.exe <<< unless you know what that is, this is what I show:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nm32.exe&btnG=Google+Search

F1 - win.ini: run=fntldr.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/fntldr.exe-4615.html

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintsvtr.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/wintsvtr.exe-6189.html

NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
an indication you are likely hacked by Ukrainian criminals.

My suggest would be to stay offline except when troubleshooting, it appears you missed the directions pissed (sticky) to the top of this forum and I posted them above. I would like to look at the required Kaspersky
Online Scan (KOS) before starting if at all possible.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here along with any comments you think will help.

Thanks

Thank you very much. I tried to run the Kaspersky Online Scan and made it thru 75% of the down load when the computer turned off. (it also turned off when I was previewing the post :p:). I am finding the computer also turning off while in other programs. So I will get the power supply changed and then try the online scan.

The program NM32.exe is my program that collects sales data from my stores.

These others are BIG issues and I will post the results when I can run KOS.

Thank you again for looking at the HJT log.

:sick:Wow. I looked at the link you provided for nm32. There seems to be some nefarious activity of stealing the program names off web pages. There should not be any users running this program, because it requires a telephone call to activate and who wants to look at gobs of numbers? Or may be it's my competition trying to give me a black eye?

After supply change and new cpu fan, Spybot SD ran thru entire check. (:oops:sorry someone else started the Spybot SD, and said at least one problem found.) When I get access to the computer I will send you the KOL and HJT log. The password screen save is up and I cannot get access. Great news it the machine is staying up and running.

Glen...this is not a company machine?

glen mattox
2008-06-15, 19:05
No. It is in the basement office and used by my wife and I. The issue that I have was the screen saver can only be logged in at the computer. It is behind a Linksys firewall router on simple home network. I am using RTC Remote Client so that I can use my laptop to run the desktop when away on the weekends.

I use the desktop for getting sales data to report back to the corporation. But it is my computer and network. I am not part of any domain.

If there is any issue, I well be glad to correct it.

I will have the KOL and HJT log shortly (30 min).

Sorry this will take more time.

When spybot SD was run this was reported:
Zlob.DNSChanger.Rtk: [SBI $2E4C4BE7] Settings (Registry value, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\System=...KDMHP.EXE...

I will post KOL later this evening.

This is only a guess with the lack of information I have, but this:
KDMHP.EXE <<< looks like Ukrainian hackers (criminals)
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.114.197

They are probably using this number:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{178A719F-EF96-43F0-933E-C6251B2F13D6}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
and I did mention this in my first post.

which is in the HJT log to confuse the issue. To be on the safe side, you might want to review this information:
How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

I will say I am not the most knowledgeable about networking, but if the infected computer is on the same network, I would guess it may infect any others on the network.

Why don't you post a fresh HJT log and we will try to work with that for now.

Thanks

Ran the Kaspersky online scan and it scanned 99138 files. It found no threats and the report is blank.

A HJT log is below. A Question I have is if this KDMHP.EXE is in the registry, shouldn't there be a program on the hard drive by that name? if it is not on the hard drive, what is downloading it? May be this is why spybot SD reports "nothing done".

This connection to the internet is thru comcast. They supplied McAffe, and I could not find a way to turn it off.

Thank you for your help. I will have to study this more. Why is KDMHP.EXE a system in the registry?

Thanks for returning your HJT log and the information about KOS. Please post only what I request, I do not run TeaTimer (personal preference is SpywareGuard) though I have run Spybot S&D for many years.
I notice you are running SG: O4 - Startup: SpywareGuard.lnk = C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe
The programs do the same thing, I suggest you turn off one of them to avoid conflicts.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) SpywareGuard: Right click SG in System Tray and click File > Exit. SG will be activated on restart.

3) Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Make sure to turn your protection back on when you finish.

Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

4) Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

This is only a start.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, let do this now.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) TeaTimer should still be disabled.

4) Turn off Windows Defender and SpywareGuard.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

F1 - win.ini: run=fntldr.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WCPT] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintsvtr.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

fntldr.exe <<< search for that file and delete it (may be in System32 also)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintsvtr.exe <<< delete that file

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log with some feedback from you.

Steps 1-5 preformed.
Step 6 I could not file either file in Explorer. I also tried Run>CMD with "dir fntldr.exe /s /a" with no luck.
Step 7 Ran ATF-Cleaner.exe and rebooted.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback...

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< Update your Java program, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Your last KOS was clean, as is the most recent HijackThis log. You may remove Fixwareout from your computer. Could you tell me how the computer is running, any malware issues.

Thanks

:) I think we have this fixed. I think it is unbelievabel the trouble one can have. Thank you for your patients while the power supply and fan were fixed.

I Know you are busy, and thank you for stepping me thru. Is there any good discussion about Spybot, Spywareblaster, SpyGuard. You mentioned Tea Timer was duplicating SpyGuard, which I had not known. Spybot had the log that gave me insight when things went wrong.

I see SG is up, I will put Windows Defender on again and update to Java 6u6.

Also what is a reaonable amount to donate.

Glen
