Hi,

Am trying to fix computer infected with Virtumonde. Spybot shows Virtumonde on scan. Cannot get rid of it permanently even with run Spybot from Safemode. Definate Virtumonde as suffering from multiple popups.

Hi Chris :)

Please uninstall Spybot for now to make sure TeaTimer won't interfere fixing. You may reinstall it after system is clean :)

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log & a fresh hjt log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Hi,
I have been naughty and not waited for instructions. I had to give the laptop back as it wasn't mine and HAD to be fixed. I followed another post and downloaded Malwarebytes AnitMalware (Malwarebytes.org). Ran it and it found and deleted Virtumonde files and registry entries. Then booted to safe mode and ran Malwarebytes again. This time removing registry entries for good (hopefully). Laptop booted fine. Had to then fix Firefox which was having trouble opening pages (you would have to continually click TRY AGAIN). Did this by denying Firefox internet access in Antivirus software (Mcafee - which by the way never detected anything the whole time). Then rebooted and start Firefox and grant full permission again. Worked a treat.

All this gleaned from these forums. I know it's not right to just jump in and try stuff, because it makes it impossible to diagnose, but I HAD to get this thing going quick. Thanks to the forum gods who helped the others with similar problems that led me to this fix!!
