Virtumonde Trojan

I have scanned my computer over a dozen times with Spybot, but it seems I just can't get rid of this problem. Here's my log anyway, even though Virtumonde keeps appearing in Spybot. Hope this can be fixed.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

I am unable to open ComboFix.exe. Every time I double click, a loading bar appears, then I get the message "ComboFix.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" in the send error report window.

The malware will do most anything to keep combofix off the computer, try renaming it first. Delete the copy you have and download a new copy, renaming it as you download like this:

If that does not work, then try running it in Safe Mode:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/safemode/

For your information, it does no good to post a HJT log until after combofix has been run.

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

1) C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, then point your mouse to the white box above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the "Select Files" Window opens copy and paste the file/s one at a time in the "File Name:" box and click Open to add them. When then are all added right click the Windows and choose "Select All" then "Fix Vundo".

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\abrfotmi.dll <<< check to make sure this file is gone.

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

Here is my latest log. The computer seems to be working properly now. The only thing I notice is that in Startup in msconfig, I have two entries (raluwtrh and updlyhne) which I think are from Virtumonde. They're not turned on, but they should probably be removed. I hope this is the last of it!

I am used to see it in the bottom half of the HJT log when it is running. If you are running
System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) in Selective Startup Mode, please return it to Normal Mode and post a new HJT log.

You can return to Selective Startup once we are finished.

Thanks for this HJT log, you may return to Selective Startup when you wish. I also could not see TeaTimer running.
Those are the bad ones that are tough to remove and the reason we needed combofix. We will try it manually first, if that does not work then try the
the method in instruction number 4 using Add More Files method. but try this first.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\raluwtrh.dll <<< delete that file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\updlyhne.dll <<< delete that file

(these files must be deleted, if they delete great, if not then try the Vundofix method. That does not work, try to delete them in Safe Mode. You can even try Vundofix "Add Files" in Safe Mode.
One thing is for sure, those files must be deleted)

5) Run Clean Manager

Thanks for the information and the feedback, we still have a vundo file in the HJT log also, let's give this a try:

I can not say for sure, but it may be keeping the junk in the HJT log with it's memory, please folow the directions and turn it off and leave it off!
We also have to run ResetTeaTimer.bat again

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

If it will not stay disabled, uninstall the Spybot S&D program until later.

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\updlyhne.dll <<< this file must be deleted, if you can not delete it manually, use the Vundofix tool. Do you need those instructions posted again?

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Your HJT log appears to be clean of malware. I could run additional malware scans but I believe, because the malware often messes with your resident AV that it would be better at this point for you to update Symantec and run a system scan watching carefully for any issues that may have been caused by the malware. If it runs as it should and returns a clean scan, then I would say you are good to go. If you have any problems with the program, consult:
