I'm very thankful that y'all are here to help. I can't seem to get this cleaned up. I'm unable to turn my Symantec automatic updates on, my system has slowed to a crawl, and I don't know what to do!
I've run Spybot S&D 1.52 in safe mode, as well as AdAware and Symantec AntiVirus. Here's the HJT Log I just ran:

Morning Eddie,
That error you where getting is because the file was part of the malware infection and was deleted , the malware still wants to run and needs that file but I don't see it present any longer so that error should have gone away.
Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall Viewpoint, at the present time its not malicious but installs without your knowledge or consent, uses system resources and basically is not needed for anything, its in the process of making the transition into the Ad Ware category.
You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here (http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html)
Remove this with HJT.
O23 - Service: hpdj5100 - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\hpdj5100.exe (file missing)
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\hpdj5100.exe <-- Delete this file
Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
The rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb: How are things running now??

Thanks!!! Things seem MUCH better! I even got my automatic updates back! No indication of any malware so far!!! (Knocks wood...)
I checked for hpdj5100.exe, but it doesn't seem to be there after I deleted the HJT item.
One question: it looks like Google Toolbar is gone from IE. (But I still see it in Add/Remove Programs). Is it safe to reinstall, or is this an invitation to more problems?
Thanks so much! I was fearful that I was going to have to wipe the machine and reinstall Windows! I'm thrilled and REALLY appreciate your help!!! YOU RULE!
All the best,
Eddie

Actually, just noticed an icon on my desktop called "Thumbs" just below the ComboFix icon and before the ATF Cleaner icon. It wasn't there before...maybe it showed up when I unhid files?
Properties says "database file."
Thanks again!
Hello Eddie,
Where did you get that user name :) Google Toolbar is fine, download if you want to. Glad things are running better for you
Do this and it may take thumbs with it.
Time for some housekeeping
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z176/EPL47/CF_Cleanup.png
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:
Delete the following:
ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
VundoFix backups, if present
The C:\Deckard folder, if present
The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
Reset the clock settings.
Hide file extensions, if required.
Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
Reset System Restore.
Malwarebytes is your to keep, check for updates and run a scan once in awhile.
ATF Cleaner was written by one of our own and its also free, run it once in awhile to clean your system of temp files and such.
Malware Complaints (http://malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.
How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10002)
Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster, you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot.
Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
Safe Surfn

We're rockin' now!!!
Thanks again! I'm using Firefox now (and totally digging it so far - thanks!) and will add some of the anti-spyware stuff you recommended as well. I can't thank you enough for all your help. It's a wonderful thing to know that there are good people like you out there to help poor schlubs like me. I'll definitely be more careful going forward!
BTW - my screen name comes from a couple of musicians I like who once said that they were going to call their band "Bag of Soup" as a joke, and I loved the way it sounded. I found out later that it's actually taken from an album by a comedian from the '60's named Soupy Sales called "A Bag of Soup." I just always got a kick out of that.
Thanks again for everything!!! YOU ROCK!!!
:band:
Eddie
Thats great Eddie, been a pleasure helping you.:bigthumb:
Take Care,
Ken
