Hi, I have had a lot of problems with my browser and especially windows update being redirected to msn. I have ran spybot and it found Zlob.DNSChanger and DoubleClick (Tracking cookie). Every time i restart my system spybot finds Zlob again, how do I remove this once and for all. I am using a vodacom broadband ISP (cellphone as modem). Here is the HijackThis log file. Please be as simple as possible in your replies as my computer knowledge is not good!!!!!! Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

FreezeScreenSaver <<< see this
http://www.castlecops.com/o23list-2306.html
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/f/freezescreensaver.exe_Removal.htm

This looks like Ukrainian criminals have hacked you, proceed like this as we find out and remove them.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

Thanks for helping me pskelley.

Firstly I downloaded RegRun5 and ran the scan, I removed these two apps;

C:WINDOWS\system32\FreezeScreenSaver.exe
C:PROGRA~1\Freeze.com\Living 3D Dolphins\trioService.exe

Also this app turned up which I ignored, please advise;

C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\MCHINJDRV.SYS

Rebooted system and RegRun5 starts up and tells me that I have a number of suspicious programs. Probably you are infected by a virus. Click FIX PROBLEMS to begin.

I did not know what you wanted me to do here, so I exited the program. Should I rerun and fix?
=========================

TeaTimer is now disabled.

Here is the SmitfraudFix report.
Thanks again for your help.

I'm not seeing anything in my instructions about this:

Firstly I downloaded RegRun5 and ran the scan, I removed these two apps;
Please stick with the directions I post, I posted the information about that adware, so you would know what I was doing when I removed it.

Rebooted system and RegRun5 starts up and tells me that I have a number of suspicious programs. Probably you are infected by a virus. Click FIX PROBLEMS to begin. I personally do not suggest running registry cleaners unless you know what you are doing. As little as I know about my own registry, I do nothing in it without making a backup.

Also this app turned up which I ignored, please advise;C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\MCHINJDRV.SYS
http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/dangerous_files/3422-mchInjDrvsys.html
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=MCHINJDRV.SYS&btnG=Search

You can scan that driver here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/

see this: http://www.file.net/process/mchinjdrv.sys.html

Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as mchInjDrv.sys, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the mchInjDrv.sys process on your pc whether it is pest.
There appears to be no Smitfraud infection on this computer, please remove Smitfraudfix from it.

Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Thanks

oops. Sorry about RegRun5, I thought that you wanted me to run it. I will read more carefully from now.

I tried to scan the driver MCHINJDRV.SYS but I can't find it in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS files.

Here are the reports you requested.

Thanks for the feedback, no problem, I'll get over it.

Also this app turned up which I ignored, please advise;
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\MCHINJDRV.SYS
You mean it turned up in RegRun5?
Use Search Companion to see if you can locate it. You will need to show all files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

I am nervous about screensavers, this looks like one. Are you sure it is safe?

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

How's the computer running, any malware issues?

Open Spybot S&D then click "Help" at the top, then click About. Post for me the version of Spybot S&D you are running and just under it post the Latest detection update

Thanks

Thanks for reply.

To answer your first question, when I ran RegRun5 and scanned for viruses it picked up the MCHINJDRV.SYS as a suspect file. I didn't delete the file, just clicked on the ignore button. I have used Search Companion to try and locate the file but it also can't find it. Expanded search with show hidden files and folders. (by the way, it took me ten minutes to figure out what the search companion was, I thought it was called search dog!!!:laugh:)
Is there a possibility that RegRun5 quarantined or hid the file somewhere?

Secondly, yes that is a free screensaver that was downloaded a few months ago, it is welcome to go, but what is the correct way to delete this?

ATF cleaner downloaded and files cleaned.

The computer seems to be running ok, just after doing all of these scans I had to restart because bluetooth connects with cellphone modem but would not connect to internet. After restart picks up the connection ok. I haven't tried any google searches or updates as you suggested I should stay offline as much as possible, but I managed to download all of those scanners well. By the way should I switch auto updates to off? When I did a restart I was told that I have one update waiting to install, I will keep ignoring this until I have heard from you.

The version for Spybot S+D is: 1.5.2.20
Latest detection update: 2008-06-18

Here are the mbam and HJT logs.

Thankyou.

Thanks for the feedback, as you read in those links that file:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\MCHINJDRV.SYS
can be used by valid programs as well as malware. Without a scan I would hesitate to remove it (and you would first have to locate it to even do that)
Not being in front of the computer, I will have to let you do that, though if you followed those directions to unhide files and folers and allowed search companion time to search (lots of files to search through, takes as much as an hour at times) then if it is not located, chances are it is not there.

C:\Program Files\hijackthis.exe <<< would you make a folder in Program Files, call it HJT and move the HJT.exe, the log and any backups folder into that folder, it will look like this:
C:\Program Files\HJT\hijackthis.exe This is for safety.

Spybot S+D: should remove any malware it finds when up to date (make sure you keep it fully immunized) if it does not, post the query here:
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=4 for Team Spybot experts.

Connecting a computer to the internet via a cell phone, first time I have heard of that?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [trioService] "C:\PROGRA~1\Freeze.com\Living 3D Dolphins\trioService.exe "
First to try is Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall Freeze.com

If it is not in Add Remove to uninstall, then use HJT to remove the item then delete that folder and contents: C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\Freeze.com

I don't see any other malware in the HJT log and MBAM was clean.

Install your Windows Update and return to normal operation, let me know how the computer runs. I will post this information for you now so you can benefit from it.

:) Started computer this evening spybot scans with no threats found. Spyware doctor scans with no threats found. Blueetooth found cell and started internet connection first time. I managed to connect to windows update with no redirects and downloaded updates.
Deleted that screensaver and ran Spybot again which still found it so I removed it there to.
I had to reboot for updates and on restart Spywaredoctor finds 12 infections. 1X adware advertising.
1X Application.tracking cookie.
10X Spyware.Rogue antispyware products.

Does this sound normal considering that I only viewed this post and downloaded windows updates. Rescanned with spybot resulting in no threats found. Also a desktop icon appeared from nowhere advertising 25 free songs which I deleted.
Otherwise computer is running perfectly.

With regards to using a cellphone as a modem. I have been waiting for my fixed line to be installed for almost a year now.(typical south african customer service). I just use an ordinary phone that is wap or browser enabled and connect via bluetooth. You can get prepaid data bundles that last for 30 days. I had a hell of a job with the settings, vodacom don't help much because they want you to buy a vodafone USB modem at twice the cost! A lot of rural customers connect like this especially for laptop users. A little bit more expensive than fixed line but at least we can connect now. Only other alternative is via satellite.

I will read those links that you have given.

Do you think that I still have a problem or am I ok. The bit about the Ukrainian hackers, have my passwords/log ins been comprimised in any way. I use this pc to access bank accs and vat and tax online for employer.

Thanks for now, will check back later.

I had to reboot for updates and on restart Spywaredoctor finds 12 infectionsI don't use SpywareDoctor so I can't comment on what it finds. Do you own this program? It may be it is finding stuff to provoke a purchase...that is not unheard of. The cookies you can control yourself:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/privacy/config.mspx

"10X Spyware.Rogue antispyware products." <<< this one surprises me because MBAM which is created by and for the malware community, that is exactly what it looks for and you saw what it found. I will say MBAM is not trying to find stuff to provoke a purchase.

I suggest you review the information I posted for way to enhance your security. I am not sure if the system you are using to be online makes you less secure or not.

As far as the hackers, have a read at what is going on in that area of the world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Business_Network
http://rbnexploit.blogspot.com/

I would change all passwords to be safe and because the internet is no longer a safe place and the kids playing pranks are gone, and organized crime has taken over, you want to be as secure as possible. Here are a few links:
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/yourself/password/create.mspx

Let's run another very good scan, it will not repair anything it finds but we can do that manually.

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner <<< check link

http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks

Hi. Sorry for the delay in replying, we have been having network problems this weekend. I finally managed to download the files for Kaspersky after upgrading my java app. Been trying since friday to download, every time it would get half way before I lost my connection. Anyway I ran the kaspersky scan which took about two hours and it found nothing at all, thus no scan file to send. It looks like i'm clean for now, I will download AVG anti-virus and the other suggestions in your links.

Those links about the russian business network are very interesting to read, makes you think twice about having internet banking etc!

Would you possible know of any good links on how to start doing computer back ups, I haven't got a clue where to begin with something like that. I'm just relying on the hard drive to keep running at the moment!!!!!!

Thankyou very much for your time and patience dealing with my problems.
