hi

Please download ewido anti malware (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a free version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will now open to the main screen.
When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
Then click on Start Update.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

Once the updates are installed do the following:

reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

then launch ewido:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

reboot back to normal mode
post the ewido report ( edit out cookie detections to make it shorter )
and a frehs hiajckthis log

Hey,
I messed up
when i ran ewido, after the scan, it prompted me asking if i wanted to remove the entire archive because certain files were embedded in them. I said no for many of them, then switched to yes. Then at the end i realized i should have done the same thing with all of them, and started a new scan, but realized too late that all that stuff was already quarentined and i hadn't saved the log. Sorry.

hi

huh there is still loads of nasties :(

lets try this utility in safe mode

download doctor webs cureit utility from here:

ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe

once saved right click it to extract it to its own folder

then reboot to safe mode

open the folder where you extracted cureit and doubleclick on drweb32w.exe
once its initial startup scan is over, click file> scan path. browse to your c:\ drive and click OK

the scan will launch
allow it to clean all infections
the report will be at your documents and settings\your userprofile\localsettings\drweb folder. id like to see its contents if possible
after scan is finished and all viruses are cleaned reboot back to normal mode, post the cureit report and a fresh hjt log

also i need these other logs:

1.) Download Blacklight Beta from here:

http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml

Accept agreement which takes you to download page.
Save the file to your desktop.
Close all browser windows and any open programs/folders.
Double click blbeta.exe
Wait a few seconds.....
Check the "I agree"
Click "scan"
Wait for scan to finish
Once done; hit "next" then "close"
Do not use this app to rename files! Sometimes there are legit hidden items.

Post results of log file on desktop called fsbl***.txt (*** is numbers)

2.) Download WinPFind from here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip

Save file and unzip it to C:\

Restart to SAFE mode
Log into your account.

Open c:\WinPFind folder and double click WinPFind.exe
click "configure scan options"
Under "Run ad-ons" checkmark:

"Qoologic.def"

Hit "Apply"

Click "start scan"

This will take a while so please be patient.
It may appear to hang at times cus it is scanning several folders. As long as the hdd light is still flashing....app is working OK.

Once done (it will tell you) a log is created in WinPFind folder called WinPFind.txt

Boot back up to normal windows and post result of log.

Thanks :)

3.) Prepare for next step:

Download Pocket Killbox from here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip

Unzip it to a convenient location.

Don't do anything with it yet. I'll let you what next when you post logs.

good luck :)

hi

for the drweb log could you upload it to here:
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=1.0
put logfile for illukka as the threads title, then attach the log to your reply
also include a link to this thread into your message. thx in advance

for the blacklight error we first need ot get rid of look2me which has taken away some of your admin privileges:

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! This Fix must NOT be run in safe mode for it to work.

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

to prepare for the fix check these things:
click start > run > type services.msc and hit enter
locate service called seclogon , or secondary logon service
doubleclick it, and make sure its startup type is set to automatic
exit services.msc

also before attempting the fix be sure to disable all security programs

and finally tell me if your version of windows is not an english language version

sunikun

I believe my windows language is an English language version

can i run option 2 yet or am i supposed to wait?

illukka
2006-03-24, 08:50
hi

i assume that your seclogon is now running automatically, the fix will fail if not
also disable your security programs and disconnect the network cables

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

hi

can you temporarily disable your antivirus, then uninstall the following from control panel> add remove:
Toolbar888
TSA
Web Nexus Network

after unistalling reboot

Download and Save Blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml) to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

I'm not sure how to disable my antivirus. Might be why i can't get rid of Toolbar888. Everytime i click on the change/remove button the screen flashes but its still there.

hi

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
Run Spybot-S&D
Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

open hijackthis
click do a system scan only
checkmark these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whsurvey.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Agent] C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whagent.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,ClientStartup -s
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [womi] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\womi\womim.exe

then close all browser and explorer windows
and click fix checked

reboot

run a blacklight scan
and a new hiajckthis scan for a fresh log

hi

yees the log is starting to look good

lets do an online virus scan next to see if there still are hidden nasties

you dont seem to have a resident anti virus program there.
ewido, while a great program, is not a virus scanner

take a look here to get a free one
http://www.free-av.com

go to to Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log
NOTE: if the panda scan log is large edit out the detected cookies, i am interested in files and registry entries that are found infected. thx in advance
also you again may need several posts to include everything.

Let us know if any problems persist.

hi

there is a difference, problems listed in red are real critical problems, you should allow spybot to fix them
other color "problems" are optionals

see this thread for info: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

then post me your spybot report

hi

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial63.html)

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html)

Reenable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.

Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict405.html)

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial60.html)

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com (http://www.windowsupdate.com) regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial43.html)

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial48.html)

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html)

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

IE/Spyad (https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm) <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Winpatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/) <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software (http://www.winpatrol.com/features.html)

also remember to keep your java updated, see this topic for instructions
