Hello

I have been battling these viruses for 4 days now with no success at all. I have run Symantec AntiVirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search&Destroy, a VundoFix program and nothing seems to stop these viruses. Originally my PC was VERY slow and almost inoperable. After many scans I was able to get it back up to speed, but unable to actually view my desktop. I went in and did the F8 before start up and selected run with last successful settings startup. The seemed to fix the log on issue but did not rid of any viruses because I am still getting notices through Symantec and Spybot. I have just recently run Spybot through SafeMode and below is the log that I received through HijackThis, that you recommended.

Hello Shanne, welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

Take the time to read the directions I posted above which is also pinned to the top of the forum and you will see stuff like this:

Posting additional comments or logs before a volunteer responds, can push you back instead of forward, because your thread ends up with a newer date. Also, helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count. The same applies to bumping, please don't. Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Hi - I saw that it is recommended to disable any anti-virus before running combofix so I disabled Symantec prior to running these.

Here is the ComboFix log

Thanks for returning your information, please read and follow these directions carefully and in the numbered order.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

(follow the CFScript instructions carefully)

3) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eoapqvym.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\myvqpaoe.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\npaankyh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eoapqvym.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ryecdsru.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpoyryxx.dll

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\qoMghgEv]

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(some items may have been removed by CFScript)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix log from CFScript, a new HJT log and feedback from you. How is the computer running now?

Thanks

Before ComboFix provided a log to me I got an error message saying "Error loading C:/Windows/system32/eoapavym.dll" - Could not be found. I did not remember to disable the Symantec before running the ComboFix with the Script you gave me. Do you think that this might have been caused by the Anti-Virus? Computer seems to be running smoothly and is booting up quickly.

Here is the ComboFix log:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you asked:

Do you think that this might have been caused by the Anti-Virus?
I would say it is more likely that the malware is complaining because we are removing it. combofix is a powerful tool, not for the novice user.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 5:08:19 PM, on 6/24/2008

I am not familiar with a few programs, but they don't look like malware, looks like your HJT log is clean. Since you have said this:

Computer seems to be running smoothly and is booting up quickly.

Let's remove combofix from your computer:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z176/EPL47/CF_Cleanup.png

and run MBAM to look for anything we might have missed:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Let me know of any malware issues.

Thanks...Phil

Hey thanks a lot for all of your help Phil! It seems that we have eliminated a good amount of the Malware. I updated the Java and that freed up a lot of space! I uninstalled ComboFix and ran Malwarebytes. The first time I ran Malwarebytes I did the full scan along with my two external drives. It found three infected files but did not open or allow me to save a log. This might have been because I ran it all night long... Symantec found two infected files on my external drives (deleted these) but none on my C: drive. This morning I ran it again to scan my computer along with one of the smaller external drives and it came up with just two infected files. Below is the log that it provided:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.18

Files Infected:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\clkcnt.txt (Trojan.Vundo) -> No action taken.

Please also note that I have just recently connected this computer (the infected computer) to the internet. I have been transferring logs and the recommended software between computers with a cd. Do you think that this malware could be showing up because it is now connected to the internet?

Regards
Shane

No...MBAM finds those two items is almost every infection. They are traces of the infection not removed by other tools.
If that is all that was found and removed, then you are likely clean of malware. If you wish to run a deeper scan, give this one a try:

Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan.

If you don't believe it is necessary, than I'll wish you safe surfing:bigthumb:

Phil,

I am very pleased to see that my computer is now working great and would like to thank you and the rest of the team for repairing my computer! I ran Kaspersky Online Scanner and it came up with the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7 REPORT
Thursday, June 26, 2008
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Kaspersky Online Scanner 7 version: 7.0.25.0

Scan archives: yes
Scan mail databases: yes

H:\Software\Native Instruments Traktor 3.3.2 Incl Crack\Traktor 3.3.2 Setup.exe Infected: Trojan.Win32.Monder.gen 1

The selected area was scanned.

I am assuming that I do not need to worry about the Symantec and plan on uninstalling the Toxic Biohazard.dll and poizone_install.exe. I have already deleted the Traktor Crack. I am sure that this is where the problem began. Let me know if you want me to delete these any certain way. Otherwise thanks again for all of your help here!!! You saved my PC!!!
