Hey Guys,

Three days ago my computer started acting weird when surfing to known and regular sites. About 3 in 5 times, they don't open. If I am persistent in trying to open a site, then my cable modem just shuts off, then auto restarts itself. Sometimes after that I can open a site, but not usually.

I don't know of malware that is capable of cycling the cable modem off to on. But thought I'd at least run this by you guys before sitting on the telephone for hours with Comcast Customer Service.

Steps Taken:
1) I used Sys Restore to go back to a known date prior to this problem arising. It didn't help.
2) I've scanned my c:\ with eTrust (today's virus signature date) tonight. Found nothing.
3) I ran Spybot tonight. Nothing but a few tracking cookies.
4) Ran HJT (current version) and that is posted here:

hi TomPabst,

that all looks good to me. thats a first for me, rebooting computer yes, rebooting modem no, at least not having anythiing to do with browsing anyway.
i would definitly call my isp and have them check your modem signals from there end.
certain modems also have a internal web page allowing the user to check them, yours might. if its a motorola surfboard point browser to;
http://192.168.2.1/

let me know what you find out

Thanks Shelf Life,

I will call them tomorrow (Comcast). I'll post back here with results, if any. I didn't want to waste time on Customer Service "hold" only to be told I had some type of malware causing this problem. Like you, I've never heard of "rebooting modems" - LOL.....

However, these guys writing malware can be pretty tricky. But, I can't figure what they'd want by reseting my modem....only at some websites but not at others? Makes me crazy! LOL...

I'll report back tomorrow.

Thank you for your "clean report" on the HJT posted.

Regards,

Tom Pabst
