Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Hi PSKelly.

Thanks for your help in cleaning up my machine. It is highly appreciated!:)

In answer to your first question. I simply believed it was Virtumonde because SB S&D listed it as the infection.

I've been very careful since I realised I was infected and have not had the infected system connected to the internet since becoming aware of the issue. I'm currently just downloading anything I need to put on the system on my laptop and transfering it via USB key.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, I could be wrong (been wrong before) but I don't think this is the Vundo infection. The files don't look like it. Since you say Spybot S&D is showing Vundo, please do this:
Open Spybot S&D then click "Help" at the top, then click About. Post for me the version of Spybot S&D you are running and just under it post the Latest detection update

Follow the instructions carefully and in the numbered order.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< update your Java program, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

(follow the directions for CFScript carefully)

4) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix log from CFScript, a new HJT log and some feedback from you.
Post the information from Spybot S&D also.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Looks like that bad item was killed by combofix and the HJT log appears clean of malware. How is your computer running now? If all is well, then this is the next bridge we must cross.

I am sure you saw this:

Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.

I've got all the windows cds and copies of all the software I use so I don't think I'll worry about installing Recovery Console.

Follow these instructions:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Let me know now about any malware issues.

Unfortunantely it said that it found a 'trojan.vunduo' registry. I hope it also managed to remove it.

In the small amount of time I've been using it, it's seemed to be ok. However I haven't had it connected to the internet really at all and have not been using it much because I wanted to be as certain as possible that everything was clean.

I'll post a new topic if anything seems to go wrong early next week. (It's a work computer so I'm not on it at the moment, just thought I'd check to see if there had been a response to my last post).
