Google Redirect Just won't go away!

Hi There

Have been trying unsuccessfully to get rid of my "Google Redirect" issue. Have had this previously and fixed with HJT fix and Fixwareout etc but not doing the trick thus far. The "O17" entry doesn't seem to want to budge. Below is my latest log:

Have also ran a few spyware scans to try and flush out but to no avail.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

Since the option is to reformat, why don't we give it another try?


1) C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\ <<< this is an obsolete program, uninstall it in Add Remove Programs.

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

3) It appears Avast4 is your antivirus program of choice and of course we should run only one, but...you have multiple McAfee services running from your Services:

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Hi James, thanks for returning your infomation and the feedback.

Let's do a little cleaning and run a good malware scan.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\ <<< update your Java program, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Before we try to remove it, we may be dealing with a rootkit infection so let's look for that first.

Please download F-Secure Blacklight:
ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe
and save to your C:\ drive.
Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
Copy/paste or type the following in the command window: C:\fsbl.exe /expert
Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
Click "Scan".
After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit".
BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet!
I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe" and "tcptest.exe.
Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Let's run Fixwareout again with additional instructions.

First, let's run the Fixwareout tool again, since you already have it install, just follow the directions I posted earlier, then do this:

Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection service's will require them.

Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
Do that for every conntection listed.

I also believe you should get your Internet Service Provider involved, tell them what infection you have and what we have done. Have them check all of your settings.

Yes...we will want to remove it from the HJT log but that is no where as important as the rest of the directions. If we remove it with the directions, it will not appear in HJT.

You know, to tell you the truth, this is all guesswork. I thought that line placed there by Ukrainian hackers would have been gone the first time we ran Fixwareout. Here is a little information about these criminals:

Okay - I ran fixewareout, and on reboot performed the Internal protocol check to obtain the servers automatically.

Rebooted again and on starting IE have noticed that it is now a lot quicker and after numerous searches Google is not redirecting.....but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet....

Have performed a HJT scan and the O17 entry is there - but this time the numbers at the end read:

194.72.0.98 194.72.9.38 as opposed to the 85.255.113.90 85.255.112.5

Is this good/bad....worse??

James, have you contacted your Internet Service Provider yet? They would be the ones who can tell you what your Protocol (TCP/IP) should be. Here is the Search Engine I use to resolve these numbers:

Your ISP or you would have to tell me if that is correct.

Not yet no...I will call their helpdesk ASAP to confirm (closed now in the UK until tomorrow AM) but using your search engine provided - these addresses appear to tie up with who they should be - British Telecom. If this turns out to be true, should I go back into the network settings and type these IP addresses in to the Internet Protocol - or should I get them to guide me in from here?...I appreciate I've taken up a lot of your valuable time already on this issue!

Yes, you can enable TeaTimer. We turn it off for several reasons.
The TT memory makes it impossible to remove some items with HJT.
It would drive you crazy reporting all of the changes as we execute different tool to remove malware.
