Possible infection?

I am not sure what is going on with my computer. I did the Avast! update the other night and since then it's been really laggy and ashwebsv.exe and ashserv.exe have been running really high. I uninstalled and deleted a few programs I am not using anymore, I also did a disk clean up. Non of this seems to be helping and I would like to know whether or not it's something worse that I am not finding?

Hi

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
Scroll down to where it says
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

Click the
Download
button to the right.
Select Windows on platform combobox and check the box that says:
Accept License Agreement. Click continue.

The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Other than that looks ok. Could you try to reinstall Avast to see if it helps? I see you're using Firefox. It's recommended to uninstall that beta version and get the final version here (http://mozilla.com/firefox).

Ok, I downloaded the new Java update..and removed older versions.
However, with the sun download manager, it would only download jre-6u6-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe that file..and not jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe this one. Does it make a difference?

That will do fine :) Only difference is that this one is for online installation while the one I meantioned is for offline installation without download manager.

Ok, now..it somewhat helped but I still have a problem. I updated Limewire the other night, along with avast. That is when this lag crap started to happen. I deleted limewire completely, plus a few other programs I was not using. I stil "lag". When I want to watch a video online, or listen to music, it does this...hard to describe lag thing. Kinda like, it'll go then..I don't know...if you ever seen PeeWee's playhouse and remember his robot Corky (or, however it was spelled)..it's like that. not sure how else to describe it, it's scratch or just..lag. I'm not sure what else to do. I did get the firefox 3 but still need to remove beta from my comp. any ideas why I'm having this lag issue? I've never had it before save for when I did have a lot of programs running and even then it wasn't like this.
