hello, spybot-s&d team, good day.

i misposted a thread @ new or undetected section. i'm sorry. don't really know where to start...

spybot-s&d detected a 'virtumonde.dll' problem two days ago. tried 'fix & immunize' utility of spybot-s&d and was removed successfully. made two scans after restarting pc w/out net connection & no immediate threat was detected. also performed a deep system scan & full system scan with bitdefender and came out clean.

this morning as i opened my pc, a message from spybot-s&d popped up with this message: spybot-s&d has detected an important.... category: system startup global entry, change: value added, entry: BM1bf55fd6, old data: -, new data: Rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\ldyfeiux.dll",s

i tried denying the change since i don't know what is that message for. afterwhich another window pops up with this message: spybot-s&d has detected...category: browser helper object, change value added, entry: {B0E76A8B-5B4C-48E2-A91C-7D0D70B0454D}, which i also denied.

then another message: spybot-s&d has detected...category: system startup global entry, change: value added, entry BM1bf55fd6, old data: -, new data: Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldyfeiux.dll",s , which i also denied.

this will just repeat itself over and over as i deny changes.

my question: what will i do? is the pc infected?

suggestions are greatly appreciated. really need help. thank you also for reading. sorry for such a lengthy post. i just don't know how to go about this. i'm using spybot-s&d ver 1.5.2.0, system settings protector ver 1.5.2.16.

thank you very much...

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) d:\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< return here and rename HJT.exe, call it ersoper.exe that will work. Hackers hide their junk from HJT and after a restart we may see the infection.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

3) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

hi. thank you very much for the reply.

the first few instructions you gave me were followed until i reached combofix.exe. i've been trying to run combofix.exe to no avail. tried to run for more than ten times but the program keeps stalling. followed to the letter all instruction(no mouseclicking, closed all running programs, disconnected internet connection, allowed access of combofix, etc.), including the tutorial provided but it's still a no go. managed to reach the part of combofix where it says 'autoscan'. waited for more than 2 hours on the until it stalled. by the time i reached the same portion again after several downloads and restarts, i waited for more than 3 hours if combofix will proceed to what was stated on the tutorial but still it stalled.

maybe my system is really that messed up... i'm really at a loss now...

anyways, here's my new hjt(ersoper.exe) log. i hope this helps...

C:\327882R2FWJFW\findstr.cfexe <<< don't know what this is but I see the cfexe? If you installed combofix anywhere but the Desktop, you have not followed directions.

maybe my system is really that messed up... i'm really at a loss now
Yes, your system is messed up, if you will but follow the directions there is a very good chance we can fix it.

The alternative is to reformat:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/reformat/
http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/how-tos/reinstall-faq.html
http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm

Let's try to get combofix to work, try this first.

1) Remove any instance of combofix you have on your computer.
2) Download it again from here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
follow these directions to rename combofix:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii277/sUBs_/combofix/CF_download_rename.gif

Make sure you download it to your DESKTOP
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

If you still can not run it, then try to run it in Safe Mode:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/safemode/

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information and good job getting the combofix log for us. Look under Other Deletions and you will see what was messing up your system. Follow the directions carefully and in the numbered order.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\ <<< check your Java program for an update, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkcyffrp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\efcARjjI.dll.vir

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BM1bf55fd6] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkcyffrp.dll",s
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03) -
O20 - Winlogon Notify: efcARjjI - C:\WINDOWS\

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix log from CFScript, a new HJT log and feedback from you. How is the computer running now?

Thanks...Phil

per your instruction: updated java, made files visible and so on. except for this one item-04 HKLM\..\Run other deletions[/COLOR], as you suggested, there were way too much dll files messing with my system. no wonder everything's going haywire.

Thanks for returning your information, I will post links at the end of the cleanup. Once you read those, if you still have questions, post them.

if i may ask, what antivirus offers better protection? what would i do so that my pc would not be infected again? thanks.I personally only suggest freeware, but there are many good products out there. If you Google, say "review av programs:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=review+antivirus+programs&btnG=Google+Search
You get lots of opinions. My opinion, and I use AVG 8 free, is that a free program that is maintained properly will afford better protection than a purchased program that is not. So...it's not the auto it's the driver who has the wreck.

These are free and I have had no issues installing AVG 8 free even remotely on my sisters (2) computers and they are newbies.
You might want to clean it completely from your computer and try again. I suggest downloading to the Desktop and then installing it. I don't turn off my firewall during the download but lots of folks do. Make sure it is up as soon as the DL is through.

Free av's available:
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
http://www.free-av.com/

Run one (1) av and one (1) firewall only and that includes one care.

Use HJT to remove this item:
O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)

the rest of the HJT log looks fine, if you are ready to move on, this is the next bridge to cross:

I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not have access to Recovery Console via a Windows CD, I strongly advise you to install this tool.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

hello, phil, good day. maybe i'll go for the avg8 as you suggested(that means, i may be asking some more questions from you, if you don't mind.:) though i haven't tried installing the free edition of avg8 again after that registry error).

removed that one item using hjt, downloaded recovery console from microsoft(i hope we will not use these:)) and here are my new logs:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, RC was installed correctly, a little information Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654
My personal belief is that Microsoft should have installed it by default.

Let's remove combofix, we are finished with it:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z176/EPL47/CF_Cleanup.png

and have a look at an MBAM scan result:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Tell me how the computer is running.

Thanks

hi, phil. thank you for that additional information from microsoft. i agree, they should've included those. maybe they just want inexperienced users like me to be in the dark. well, thanks to forums like this and persons like you who are more than willing to help and share. cheers!

uninstalled combofix(thanks also to those who made it!). here's my malwarebyte log:

Thanks for running MBAM for 1 hour to find you are clean. I have installed AVG four times, twice personally and twice remotely and I can tell your AVG 8will not install if you have another antivirus running, in fact it should tell you that when you try to install it. Here is a tutorial from a expert friend that removes stuff not needed:

hi, phil. thanks again for these tons of useful information. i'll try to go over them in coming days and try to learn from them.

good news, i've successfully installed avg 8! maybe it was because of the various junk on my system brought about by the infection. thankfully, it was remedied early on. i can't thank you enough.

is it safe to remove hijackthis and atf cleaner now? if it's ok i think i should hold on to malwarebyte...

again, thank you very much & more power! :bigthumb:

I have had HJT onboard for ten years, here's a tutorial:

Still free even though Trend Micro purchased it.

ATF-Cleaner: you will not find a better, free cleaning utility anywhere.

MBAM: it's free:) click through to the website and thank them for keeping it free.

Thanks for the questions.

Phil

reading back what we have done to remove the infection, i noticed that we disabled the teatimer so as not to interfere with the fixes.

anyways, i enabled it just now.

happy computing, phil. thanks & always have a good one!
