I would like to start off by stating I had had help before (not by anyone online) and was advised to use Spybot & Malware Antimalware. The first symptom came about two weeks ago after clicking a link that have a very high possibility of containing some sort of virus (it was some sort of key-generator). There were three files in the folder after the download (it contained the key-generator [it does nothing when clicked] and two strangely worded files [which both disappeared after clicked once]). If I remember correctly, a few hours later (upon returning after shutting down), after opening Mozilla Firefox (just thinking back, I downloaded firefox 3 the night before) the start page load up extremely slow; And trying to go to any web-page seems futile. i also notice the link thingy is different at the bottom left of the browser when any web page is being opened. Once in awhile, I get directed to a different site stating my computer has blocked a malicious attack and asked what I want to do about it.

That's pretty much the symptoms that occur one or two weeks ago. Before knowing about spybot and malware anti malware, I did the usual norton anti-virus sweep (which I don't remember what it found but it couldn't get rid it) then I tried deleting stuff on the computer that I thought is the cause of it then I did a system restore (now I know system restore can not fix malware or viruses problems). From there on out, I found this site from searching a way to fix the problem online; I then did a spybot sweep in safemode. It got rid of a virus called {AdRevolver} but it failed to completely remove Virtumonde (even after a few more sweep). I even used the software, Kaspersky, and the odd thing is it didn't find any virtumonde but it found {Obfuscated.drb}.

I can detect Virtumonde and Obfuscated.drb. I have no idea how to remove them. here's the HijackThis log::

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

You have at least one trojan showing: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrzf32.dll
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=winrzf32.dll&btnG=Google+Search
and nothing else. What program is telling you about these items:

I can detect Virtumonde and Obfuscated.drb. If it is Spybot S&D please provide me with this information:

Open Spybot S&D then click "Help" at the top, then click About. Post for me the version of Spybot S&D you are running and just under it post the Latest detection update.

Let's have combofix take a look for us:

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7 detected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrzf32.dll [file name], which also go by Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.drb [threat name]. I have included a copy of Kaspersky's report.

As for Spybot S&D, the version is [1.5.2.20] and the latest detection update is [6/25/2008]. However, I haven't purged the Virtumonde [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSMGR] which was discovered on 6/30/2008] (I had previously purged it but it's discovered every time I did a search). Before doing anything with Spybot S&D, I will provide the ComboFix and new HijackThis logs:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, read and follow the directions carefully.

1) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrzf32.dll

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\winrzf32]

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrzf32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrzf32.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

You have MBAM on board, follow these driections:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the combofix log from CFScript. the contents of that MBAM file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Tell me how the computer is running.

Thanks

As instructed, I began with ComboFix; by draging the CFScript to the icon. Next, with HijackThis, did a system scan only; but didn't fix anything due to the [O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrzf32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrzf32.dll] item being absent. Then I used ATF Cleaner to empty 'everything'. Last, I used MBAM to which it detected no infected objects. At the moment, the computer is back to its old self; web pages are loading up smoothly, no sudden pop-up or re-direction to a different site, and the laptop ceased to restart itself when I connect to the router/internet (as if nothing has ever happened).

I would like to thank you for your time. It's much appreciated. At the moment i don't have time to do a Spybot scan and a kaspersky scan; so I'll provide these extra scans later tonight, approximately 5 hours (just in case these scan will find something infected). Again, thank you.

Thanks for returning your infoamtion and the feedback, everything sounds good:bigthumb: Your HJT log looks clean of malware also.

This is the next bridge we have to cross:
I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not have access to Recovery Console via a Windows CD, I strongly advise you to install this tool.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

Also see if you can update your antivirus program and run a system scan. Watch it closely for any issues, malware likes to mess up your security programs. If you have any problems with it, contact tech support right away:

Thanks

Just in case, I scanned the computer with Spybot S&D and Kaspersky; Both found no infections. :2thumb:

Sounds good, remove combofix like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
