Hello,

I tried attaching a screen shot of the spybot run I took a couple days ago but file is too large to upload. Reducing it in Paint didn't help. I ran Spybot again last night and still have the same problems. How can I upload the info to you? bbbob

Hi

CoolWWWSearch.hjg entries look like false positives to me.

As for this:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=

Do a search and tell me if you are able to find userinit.exe (likely in c:\windows\system32 folder).

Hi

Thanks for the info.

Please click this link-->Jotti (http://virusscan.jotti.org/)

Copy/paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box and click Submit/Send (depends on which one you are using Jotti or VirusTotal).

c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Disclaimer
This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 10Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

Hi

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post.

Hi

"
System Drive C: has 2.06 GiB (less than 15%) free."

I recommend to uninstall unneeded programs.

Uninstall also these:

Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5

After that:

Go to Start > Run
Type regedit /e C: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit c:\reg.txt and click ok
Type notepad c:\reg.txt and post back contents of opening file, please.

Hello,

I uninstalled some programs and cleaned the HDD to regain some space as you suggested. One file, "FEAR", a game that had a virus last year and was quarantined, still shows up in the program list and cannot be completely uninstalled. Error claims it is in another language but it was an English version of the game. Besides finding it in the uninstall listing I also found it in a start file through the search routine.

I tried to do the following as you suggested:

Go to Start > Run
Type regedit /e C: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit c:\reg.txt and click ok
Type notepad c:\reg.txt and post back contents of opening file

The first part ran and seemed to produce something but the second part could not find the reg.txt file so I have nothing to send. bbbob
