I didn't mean to post that yet. i am running windows xp. my browser is getting redirected everytime i google (which is my homepage). my trend says i have cryp_yodap but offers no ability to clean or quarantine. my daughter unbeknownst to me installed a kids sticker factory and i think this may be the culprit, i uninstalled but the pathway is my profile "PLAY"'s desktop...actually $INSTDIR/klango.exe (C:\Documents and Settings\PLAY\Des... and i can not see the rest. the other I was able to quarantine is located at C:\Docs and settings\PLAY\Alphabet_100_K_... ANy help is greatly appreciated. thank you in advance for your help.

I dont think anyone is responding because I am listing a virus in my subject line. The issue mainly is that i have a hijacked browser. Do you mind changing so that helpers will realize it is not completely a virus issue? Or should I repost? thank you!

[I]Edit:
I dont think anyone is responding because

Topic started less than 24 hours before third post, sorry but we have more victims of malware than volunteers. Please do not add any more posts to thread or helpers may believe you are already being assisted. ;)

hi inspiredmomma,

dont recognize anything in the hjt log as malware, (one questionable BHO which we will leave for now) but that dosnt mean its not there. i assume your trend micro has a anti-malware component. we will get another and see if it can dig up anything:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop:

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt

post the malwarebytes log.

I kept refreshing and sorry i didn't see your response. thanks so much for your attention, i am downloading malwarebytes now. i am having trouble now even more so than when i posted original log. now a trend window popped up saying there was a change being made to my browser i denied it and then my internet browser will not work. email works fine, i ran diagnostic and it said my http/https/ftp possibly my firewall settings preventing connection. I turned firewall off (major oops? stupid mistake!?) for 15 seconds to see if i could get online, no dice. then window indicating changes pops up again w/ 1 high risk, 2 medium and 5187 low risk changes to my system (1 memory, 1 start up, 5187 browser changes). also amidst all of this i get a couple send error reports/ program not responding windows 1 for drwatsonpostmortem debugger and then pccHCMS under details listed modrunloadhttp.dll) also direct DBNotifyWndProc was another. just ran search and destroy and it found "Right Media" as a problem. spyware doctor just alerted me that i have 4 threats and 50 infections. holy bird poop! one is a trojan-downlader.vb.axa, rogue antispyware.antispywaremaster, adware.advertising, application.tracking cookies. should i "fix"? thank you so much i really appreciate your help!!!

my computer is not allowing me access to the attachment or if i zip it, not allwoing me to open and run the .exe. it provides a suggested work around for "unblocking" but will not allow me to even save the file! any suggestions for this issue?

hi inspiredmomma,

ok i see you got malwarebytes to run and it removed that bho. you have run spybot and allowed it to remove found items?

we will get another download to use to see if it can dig anything up:

Download combofix from one of these links and save it to your Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

what software is popping up with all the "change warnings"?

then window indicating changes pops up again w/ 1 high risk, 2 medium and 5187 low risk

My browser is still unable to get online
you posting from another machine?

inspiredmomma
2008-07-10, 16:57
it is trendmicro PC-cillin Internet Security that pops up windows
in fact it is popping up now as i am trying to run the combofix (unfamiliar software), along w/ windows (needs to know what program created it) and spyware doctor (dangerous software) are all blocking me from running the combo fix. what to do?
yes i think i did let spybot make some fixes.
I am posting from another machine. My http/s and ftp ports are not working. I can email to and from that machine. (should I be worried about my data on that computer?) did this knock out a .dll? do you think i can get my browser back working with out having to fix/reinstall windows?
I am continually getting a trendmicro pop up addressing 2 low risk changes 1 to computer memory 1 to windows security policy settings. I am not sure if this is the virus/hijacker or the software I am trying to install that you are recommending. I just leave it open in perpetual state of indecision! I feel like such a dummy. I really appreciate you guiding me through this.
In meantime, here is the newest hjt log...

hi inspiredmomma

thanks for the info. i assume you have combofix on the desktop on the machine in question. for now just disconnect that machine from the internet by unplugging the modem or disconnecting at the router if you have one. we will leave the non-working browser problem for last. its possible it could be malware related or maybe its not.
for combofix: lets try running it in safe mode:

to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart, at the options menu chose the first one from the list: safe mode.
log in to your regular account, once at the safe mode desktop run combofix, save the log it makes and post the log please.

wow shelf life, i am really trying over here but i'm really battling it now. i got a bsod and then a message that my computer had recovered from a serious error. it keeps freezing up and wont' shut down unless i kill it by holding power button, (this is a laptop)...i've tried twice rebooting hitting f8 like usually would work to get to safe mode but it won't go!! it's running very slow and funky. what do you think i should do? i thought there was another way to get to safe mode like a "reboot in safe mode" but i could have dreamed that. Thanks again for your help and tenacity. I would be flailing over here, but I feel confident with your help! ;)

okay big question got to safe mode desktop running combo fix and a warning comes up that 1 out of a 100 machines fails "to make it through" the disinfection process! should i be worried and get my data off of this computer before doing this? I have all of my digital pictures on this machine. I haven't had a chance to back it up lately. Let me know what you think.
thanks...

hi,

i think that means malware removal could fail, not that combofix will destroy your machine. but if you have the opportunity and means you could pull off the pixs and any other data you dont want to lose. With a BSOD now might be the time to do so. A BSOD could be pointing to other non-malware related issues. its up to you. the f8 during restart is the easiest way to get to safe mode.
once you power off your laptop wait a minute or so before restarting it to tap the f8 key to enter safe mode.

i am working to back this thing up and then will run the combofix (with confidence!) I will be back on monday and will get back to you then. In the meantime just got another trend micro scan result it is the cryp_yodap file name is $INSTDIR\klango.exe (C:System Volume Information\_restore{B992AC1F-1409-469D-9617-074D63E04B5E}\RP368\A0147094.exe -will not let me clean but will let me quarantine and the same path with out the $INSTDIR\klango.exe- will not let me clean or quarantine. thanks again for your help. i'll get back to you after the weekend
