Can't figure out what's wrong...

Hi, last night I clicked to watch a video and from what I remember, it asked me to install activex (which I OBVIOUSLY thought was harmless). It IMMEDIATELY swamped my computer with pop-ups and I believe something called "windows activex spyware remover 2008"??? Incessant pop-ups of that "program" plagued me all night. I installed McAfee and it was no help..thought I had a virus. So not knowing what else to do, I did a sytem restore from the previous day when everything was normal. That appeared to have worked (I guess) but one thing I have noticed is Search Engine default has changed...so I removed all the of the odd search engines and now I cannot use the "search" box, I get "ALERT: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at internetsearchservice.com." I believe I've used Avast! Antivirus, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Windows Defender, Yahoo Toolbar Anti-Spy, and I think that's it..it has detected nothing but I know there is something wrong. After using Malwarebytes and removing the Zlob trojan, my default search engine (google) is still not working. I have not been able to figure out how to fix it and it is driving me crazy!! Please help!
