After trying to install Visual Stuido 2005, I learned that I could not create a folder called "sys" - I researched the problem and learned about RootKits. I downloaded Blacklight and ran it. However, when I run Blacklight, I get the following error:
F-Secure BlackLight was unable to acquire necessary privileges (SeDebugPrivilege)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you ever had an L2M infection? L2M removes the SeDebug Privilege from the administrators group.
And are you running from a profile which has administrative privileges?
Let's have a look to see if you have any leftovers from a previous infection.

Save the file to your desktop. Double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into your next reply here.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
That makes sense as I recently had a "Crack" file send to me which, after I ran it, installed just about every nasty thing out there! After a days worth of cleaning with KillBox, I had my computer back. I don't remember all the different malwares I had, but L2M was probably one of them.

Ylu sure did have an L2M infection. Whatever you used to clean it up left a lot of issues unresolved. Your entire notify key is cooked too.
L2MFix part 2 should resolve this issue.
And it will restore your privilege so you can run Blacklight.
Out of curiosity what did you use to clean it up?
Let's do part 2.
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new Hijack This log.
I cleaned all executables manually using CompareDLL and Killbox. I guess there were other changes that I did not address...

Can I see the rest of your L2M part 2 log please? It got cut off and I want to be sure your notify key defaults were put back as they should have been.
Another utility to run if you haven't already is smitrem. Just to be sure you don't have anything from that infection hanging around.
Here's the entire set of directions we generally give for that. Seeing sysbus32 makes me want to have you rally get back in there and clean. Ewido is excellent.
Download
smitrem.exe (http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1)
Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on smitRem.exe to extract the files it contains.
This will create a folder named smitrem on your desktop.
We'll use it later.

Download CCleaner.

Install CCleaner
Launch CCleaner and look in the upper right corner and click on the "Options" button.
Click "Advanced" and remove the check by "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours".
Click OK
Do not run CCleaner yet. You will run it later in safe mode.
Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite:

Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart into Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your desktop
Start Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.
Go to Control Panel > Display. Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the "Web" tab. Under "Web Pages" you should see an entry checked called something like "Security info" or similar.If it is there, select that entry and click the "Delete" button. Click OK then Apply and OK.
Restart back into regular windows.

Also, just to let ya know, After running BlackLight and renaming the file "sysbus32.sys" to "sysbus32.sys.ren", I ran a Norton system scan. It found and deleted the renamed file, reporting it as a virus.

After running RootKit Revealer, I located this entry:
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\a347scsi\Config\jdgg40 6/30/2005 1:03 AM 0 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
I do have Alcohol 120% installed and I've heard this can be the cause. Is this something I need to be concerned about? :confused:
