View Full Version : Another Web Technologies infection

This is the most annoying infection one can imagine. Every 10 seconds something else pops
up, all directed to getting me to buy their anti something software while all the time I am asked if I approve of iebt.dll to explorer helper. It also informs me that my system has slowed down 49% and that I have networm-i.virus@fp. I do not think I have any of this.
They oughta be shot. Help please! I also use this computer in my business. I did a scan with HJT and it shows:

Hi Benzman

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Thanx for your reply, Shaba. I'm all ears! However, to cut down on the ever present pop
ups, whenever a new ie window opened, I copied the web address into my Hosts file from
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm. This has effectively stopped most of them. But I hope it won't impede your help in ridding me of this scourge.
The results for SmitFraud are:

Hi

No, that is fine :)

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/) Free for Home Users Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here (http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html).)
______________________________

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hi Shaba.
Now, I find that I can view the log file of what is quarantined in SUPERAntiSpyware, but cannot copy it. I can tell you that there were a total of 76 Trojans and Malware files quarantined.
I deleted all temp files as requested as well as all other procedures.
It appears that everything is back to NORMAL! I can't thank you enough! You've saved me from the looney bin! :):bigthumb:
If necessary, I'll be glad to repeat any procedures you think.

The new Hijackthis log follows:

Hi

You posted now option 1 log. I mean that option 2 log (the one you ran in safe mode).

Hi
Re #1
Looks like the previous post wasn't posted. But what I said was that after running the SUPERAntiSpyware, it DID NOT create a new rapport.txt file. I have only the original one. Have no idea why it wouldn't.
I can run another scan if you like. Just let me know.
Tks

Hi

I see, no need for that :)

Uninstall from add/remove programs:

Zone Alarm Spy Blocker

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these if present:

Hi

I mean that have you set OpenDNS as your DNS server?

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{06821286-D338-4225-B860-49173173FD06}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220

Hi Shaba
Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you today. In addition to being tied up on business today, now my desktop computer (the one with the problem) refuses to connect to the net even though it shows it is connected. So I'm answering this post on my laptop via a router. And since I can connect to the net, given that the cable goes from my broadband modem to the desktop computer, I don't know what's going on.
Do you have any suggestions about curing this problem so that we can finish up with this removal project?

Hi

Try this:

Please go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Hi
I tried the above and noticed that I had lost the IP address of Open DNS which I re-entered, restarted, but nothing came of it. I recall that I didn't turn the computer off night before last and sometime overnite, ms update took place and turned it off.
Could the update have done this? Now, although the update has finished, the little shield in the tray is still there (never happened before) and when I mouse over, it shows 0% downloading.
I think I screwed up. I mistook your previous post on these 3 files:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{06821286-D338-4225-B860-49173173FD06}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{06821286-D338-4225-B860-49173173FD06}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{06821286-D338-4225-B860-49173173FD06}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220

and I deleted them. Only after I did, I noticed they were the Open DNS addresses.
Can they be restored?

Hi

Yes, you can restore them from HijackThis backups (View List of backups, checkmark and click restore).

Hi
Did that and so now I'm at a loss as to what's going on. Hope you have another idea.
One other thing I now notice is that before I picked up the trojan my computer was fairly fast and on startup it would load up very fast. Now it's very
s l o w. Beyond that, I don't notice anything more.

Hi
Just looking over my previous post and happened to notice that in 02 section and also the 03 there are still Web Technologies entries. Should I not delete them as well?

Hi

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Please post contents of that file in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Hi
As you know, I am still not able to access the net, so I must load programs on the laptop and then run them on the desktop. Didn't have any problems loading the SmitfraudFix on a CD, but the Malwares' just won't do. I've tried several scenarios with no luck. Suggestions?

Hi

So if you copy mbam installer to desktop, it won't run?

Benzman
2008-07-10, 21:25
Hi
No. Instead of the Malware icon, there is only a folder and when clicked, it either won't run or it will open the individual files of the program. I also set up a folder in c:\program files\Malwares' and then downloaded to it. Won't do anything.

Hi

Those entries are gone, good :)

You can fix this:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {09AF76DD-6988-4664-97D0-362F1011E311} - (no file)

Still problems?

Hi
OK took care of that one and HJT log follows. But, yes, I still cannot access the net. Got any aces up your sleeve? I've tried everything I know to do, but still won't connect even though sys tray says I'm connected at 100mbs and I'm getting a good signal for this computer via a router.

Hi

i think that pcpitstop would help you better with that issue, is it OK to re-direct you there?

Any malware issues left?

Hi
That would be fine.. Whatever works. Far as I know, no more malware problems. You've done a great job and I thank you sincerely.

Hi

Then please go here (http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update: Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and save it to your desktop.
Scroll down to where it saysThe Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications..
Click the Download button to the right.
Select Windows on platform combobox and check the box that says:
Accept License Agreement. Click continue.
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Next we remove all used tools.

Please download OTCleanIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTCleanIt.exe) and save it to desktop.
