Hi,
I have been caught up in the virtumonde hell. I have tried using spybot to remove it and it has not worked.
Any help you could offer would be appreciated. I am not very techy, but I can follow directions :red:

Hi Shelf Life!
Thanks for your response.

I ran Hijack This and the entries that you mentioned were not there anymore. I think my Semantic ran automatically but when I had run it before I got to this board it could not find virtumonde. Only Spybothad found it. I tried to use IE and virtumonde or something like itis still there opening windows.

Stupid me didn't save a copy of the Hijack file at this point.

I ran Vundofx it found nothing :-(

I tried to run Combofix but after the window with the green status bar I get the error "ComboFix.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Here is my new HiJackThis file.

hi TheLastPrincess,

ok thanks for the info. hold off on combofix for now. we will see what malwarebytes can dig up:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop:

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt

post the malwarebytes log.

hi TheLastPrincess

ok good so far- thanks for the info. you rebooted your machine as part of the process after running malwarebytes? go ahead and try to run combofix now.
if it wont run in "normal" mode from your desktop, you can boot into safe mode to run it.
to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option from the list; safe mode. once at the safe mode desktop try running combofix.

double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

hi,

ok good. must be looking better on your end now. we will use combofix to remove two things:

Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.
Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

Folder::
C:\temp\syschk3

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{50b8ad43-6ba0-11db-bf4e-806d6172696f}]

Name the Notepad file CFScript.txt and Save it to your desktop.
now locate the file you just saved and the combofix icon, both on your desktop.
using your mouse drag the CFScript right on top of the combofix icon and release, combofix will run and produce a new log
please post the new combofix log and a new hjt log.

you can also re-run malwarebytes for another pass.

system restore

One of the features of Windows ME,XP and Vista is the System Restore option, however if malware infects a computer it is possible that the malware could be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore points)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(create new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot

if all is good, some info for you:

3) Install, keep updated: antivirus and two anti-malware applications.
4)Dont click on links or install files you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting the message. Do you trust the source?
5) Dont click on adds/pop ups or offers from websites to install software.
6) Dont click on offers to "scan" your computer.
7) Set up and use limited accounts rather than administrator accounts.
8) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.
9) Install and understand the limitations of a third party software firewall.
10) If your habits include visiting or installing files from: warez, cracks etc or p2p networks you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
