Evening,

Virtumonde showed up in my latest scan, and refuses to go away. SS&D has been run multiple times to no avail. Teatimer is active, as is ClamWin, my antivirus choice.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do. This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

2) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Hi PSKelly,

First I would like to thank you for your assistance. To forewarn, I must apologize for my impatience - I don't like to wait for anything (extremely bad habbit of mine).

I have to thank you for the assistance posts you have given other people on this forum - your suggestions to them, when carefully applied, enabled me to deduce a solution to the problem, using a combination of vundofix, combofix, SS&D, and MBAM - as well as installation of a recomended firewall to see what programs were asking for internet access.

Of course, figuring out what each program did and carefully identifying what files were related to the infection took much longer, I'm sure, than it would have taken you.

I should have posted sooner to save you the time of having to go through my log; I've been busy lately. No excuse. You have my sincerest apologies. I do plan on making a donation though, as the time I'm sure you and the other volunteers spend could be spent on many other enjoyable tasks.

To verify that the computer is clean, here is a HJT log. I can't see any of the files I identified as part of the virtumonde infection, however, as I'm still learning this, I may be overlooking something (eg. multiple svchost.exe's running? one per windows service, or a hint of something still lurking?)

It's Phil, and since we are being candid, I don't have a problem with that. Here at Safer Networking all off the Malware Removal helpers are volunteers, none of us "work here" and I have few requirement and they are to read and follow the directions to the best of your ability, and to follow the instructions I post.

Here are just one of those directions which is plainly pinned (sticky) at the top of this forum:
Do NOT run 'FIXES' before helpers have analyzed the HJT log

Every infection (especially Vundo) is different as is every computer. If this were not the case we could post one tutorial and everyone could follow it and I would not have 90 or so folks waiting for help this moment at this one forum. Having said all of this, if you want help from me, return to the directions I posted and follow them.
