I was running 1.5.2 and all was good. I saw 1.6 came out so I installed it and liked what I saw right off the bat. But after 3 days I could not stand it anymore and pulled it off.

Here is what was happening to me

Working through the file system in windows explorer would take 1 to 4 seconds PER folder to show me the files on the right side. usually 3 seconds. Removed spybot and now they display in less then a second (SAME folders in windows explorer)

IE was SSSSSSSLLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWW when you open IE it popped up but it would take google 3 to 5 seconds to load the home page. Then I would click on a favorite and it would again take 3 to 5 seconds to start transfering the site. The half the site would load and IE would freeze with half the site loaded for about 5 seconds, then it would finish loading. gmail would take 5 seconds to load the log in screen then after I typed in my pw the processing screen would hang for 10 to 20 seconds then log me in. clicking on messages took again 5 ish seconds to react. I removed Spybot and rebooted and now my system is FAST! no more lagging!

anyone else have issues with 1.6? I am going back to 1.5.2 till 1.6.somethingElse comes out!

I've been experiencing the same thing.

Take a look here: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=30975

Turn off the Spybot addon in IE.

Makes sense but I would rather run a older version then run with nothing. I hope they come up with a Fix SOON!

BTW I am using IE6 still because I HATE IE7! I will use 6 till M$ slams 7 down my throat

Sorry to get offtopic, but why? 7 is much faster and more secure than 6.

mostly because I dont like the layout the look and the feel. Also i HATE tabs. I know you can turn them off, but its still ugly

I am experiancing a similar thing, only in my case The SD helper actually crashes IE 7 at random intervals and cause some pages to not load properly. I've also noticed that without the SD Helper loaded only IE 7 (Vista Home Premium) uses 13,526k memory (Approx) but with the SD Helper loaded its actually closer to 16,500k. On my old XP Home machine I never had any trouble with the SD Helper but with both 1.5.2.20 and 1.6.0.30 IE 7 crashes when the SD Helper is enabled.

Hah same, EnhanceIE.com has a collection of tweaks to make IE7 feel a bit more like IE6:

Here's a pic of my IE7 now:

I finally bit the bullet and put ie7 on my laptop ( i still hate it...)

and then I installed spybot 1.6 and now its even worse! Pages LAG when you pull them up. Takes 10 to 20 seconds after a page loads to get IE to do anything. If I disable the ie helper, the issue goes away but why turn off your protection? sounds stupid.

What is the fix for this?!?!?!!?!?!?!!

Try looking at this thread :
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=32763
where I summarise how I solved this problem - seems to work for many but not all slowdowns.

The only other suggestion for IE slowdowns has been to uninstall the Google Toolbar if you have it installed.

You guys, why not just switch to Mozilla Firefox?!

Thanks doug for the pointers. I deleted my cookies and that seems to have helped. Its still slower then 1.5 was but MUCH better then it was before. Now as the cookies come back my IE will slow and Ill have to keep deleting them and that can get annoying, but its still better then fighting a 10 to 20 second delay! I hope spybot fixes this issue soon!

The excessive cookies slowdown issue has now been added to the Spybot Bug Tracker:
http://forums.spybot.info:80/project.php?issueid=282
Please go and vote and comment to increase the chances of a fix.

As the previous version of Spybot did not suffer this problem - on an otherwise identical computer - it seems likely this should be fixable. I can only asssume that the way SDHelper interacts with Explorer must have been changed since v1.5.2 - this version had no problem with 1000's of cookies.

The only other confirmed cause of IE7 slowdowns (in some cases) is the Google Toolbar - and possibly other toolbars with security features.
This could be due to an interaction between multiple cookie checking systems.
