I found this one today but can't seem to get rid of it. I'm not experiencing any major system issues attributable to this - but, then again, what do I know; right?

Not sure if you need any of my OS configurations or much else other than my log, so - here goes (and thanks in advance):

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I am not seeing much in the HJT log, do you know what this is?
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DIbminsprt310] D:\Ibmins\prtStart.exe 17 47 1 05 2008 "D:\Ibmins\prt3140.exe"

When you say this:

I found this one today but can't seem to get rid of it.
What exactly do you mean by that? What program found a this, what exactly did it find? Where did this program say this item is located.

Provide any information you think will help.

If by chance this is something Spybot S&D is finding and can not remove, it is usually because the program is not up to date and fully immunized.
Open Spybot S&D then click "Help" at the top, then click About. Post for me the version of Spybot S&D you are running and just under it post the Latest detection update.

Spybot-S&D 1.6 has arrived! 8. July 2008

I downloaded, installed, and did a scan with Spyware Doctor. That was the program that found the "trojan.virtumonde" on my system (this is the "found this one today" part of my post). The Spyware Doctor software would hang and then completely freeze when it got to 100% scanning. This happened twice. My understanding of that program (the free version) is that it only finds but doesn't remove. Unfortunately, I got a little gung-ho and removed the program believing it would be useless to me thereafter - especially since it was freezing at the conclusion of the scan.

I'm do still have the .exe file on my system and can reinstall, rescan, hope it doesn't freeze up, and try to provide the information you ask for.

I immediately did a scan with Spybot S&D but "trojan.virtumonde" was not found (hence, the "could not get rid of it") and that's when I came here. I thought I had done all the proper updates and immunizations just prior to posting my log. I did scan again in Safe Mode and, again, "trojan.virtumonde" was not found:

S&D Version 1.5.2.20 - Latest detection update: 7/16/2008

Obviously, I neglected to search for the new update for S&D as I see from your response that 1.6 is now available. If you say so, I will go ahead and download and install that. But I will wait for your instructions on that.

As for:
"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DIbminsprt310] D:\Ibmins\prtStart.exe 17 47 1 05 2008 "D:\Ibmins\prt3140.exe""?

I have no idea what this could be except that my D: drive is my CD/DVD drive.

I can not really comments on other malware removers I am not familiar with. It is not however, unusual for programs to locate "malware" to create a purchase. I can not say if this is the case here. Why don't we take a look with a freeware program that will remove any malware it finds, just to see what happens.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Thanks
