This is a member of a 2003R2 SBS domain.
I am the closest thing to admin/tech support.
I have made previous attempts to clear this infection.
I won't do anything else, until instructed.

I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

You have a Vundo infection and more, including a hard to remove rouge product. Follow the directions in this tutorial:

Thanks for returning your information, let's try this next and see what happens.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs and uninstall XP Antivirus, Antivirus 2009, VAV and anything else you know does not belong there.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

5) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\Program Files\VAV\ <<< delete that folder and contents

( I am wondering how three rouge programs all got installed? Almost like someone did it? )

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and some feedback.

Nothing suspicious in A/R Programs.
None of the folders existed under C:\Program Files\
As an added step I did a Search for each executable.
xpa.exe - not found
av2009.exe - only in a SB Recovery file
vav.exe - only in a SB Recovery file

This user/system has been hit in the past. Registry entires were probably left over from my incomplete cleanup of those earlier incidents...

I'm able to get the Automatic Update service set to automatic and it started! I hoped purging the nasties would fix that.

After sending this I'm going to start a SB Update/Scan and MBAM Update/Scan to see if anything re-appears.
I won't do any more than scan... promise...

OK, thanks for the feedback. They may have been leftovers in the HJT log and HJT would not show Spybot S&D "Recovery". If there is any other junk is in "Recovery" remove it like this:

SB 1.6.0.30 updated today (7/23) finds:

I'm tempted to just delete it but I expect that it's 'in use'. I'd like to make sure that it's gone and doesn't get called in the future.

Sorry for the delay in posting...

SB was able to 'fix' the problem. I've launched IE and rebooted a couple more times and the nasties haven't returned.
