I have today updated Spybot and also installed an updated version of adaware. The result of all this is that spybot won't run. I get the screen , click on search for problems and it all freezes. When I go to task manager it tells me that spybot is not responding . What do I do now?

yes I did and indeed it does say that it detects the presence of adaware on my pc which may cause a problem but does not tell me how to resolve the problem.

Hi
what was your previous version (s) of spybot?- history please
did you just overwite or did you use add remove programs?

I think you are in for the long method\
un-immunize
uncheck T-timer and SDHelper if used
remove with add remove programs
(all listings of Spybot if more than one)
If you have had Spybot on more than one driver or directory post back
run the "small fix
Install 1.6

I've never seen ad-aware to be a problem- but after you run it once it's most likely not worth the bother (IMHO) whereas MAlware Bytes and a few others can be valuable
install spywareblaster - it will help more than ad-aware (although different :)

see the uninstall stickie

You shouldn't need to uninstall Adaware. It shouldn't cause Spybot not to run.
There's a compatibility overview here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/compatibility/adaware.html

If you have the AdAware option to scan inside archives enabled, AdAware may find files in the Spybot-S&D folder. Spybot-S&D does not contain any spyware, but it creates backups of everything you fix (until you remove those backups from the Recovery list), and AdAware complains about these backups. You can safely ignore these backups found by AdAware.

If you'd rather not try uninstalling/reinstalling Spybot just yet,you could try a safe mode scan, and let me know how it goes.

As long as you do not download stuff from there, you should be good. =] (thats what it was flagged for, bad downloads.)

Yes,from what I see it was flagged for the mscdx221.exe download. The rest of the info from siteadvisor said most downloads from the site are okay.In the comments section, someone who says they're the computerhope owner ran the file through multiple scanners, and they think it's a false positive.

I've known and trusted the site for a long while,so I don't know what to make of that. But thanks for letting me know it was flagged by siteadvisor as yellow. :)

Hi everybody,

I'm a longtime fan of your software. That's why I was delighted to see 1.6 version. I have installed it.

It takes forever to start S&D on my computer - about one minute! After it starts it's OK.

Could it be that something's wrong with my machine? Here's the data:

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750
Memory: 2 GB of RAM
OS: MS Windows XP Professional SP3
HD: 500 G of Western

Questions:

a) Is it OK - the start up time, I mean
b) Why the last update is of 30/7 a (almost) week ago?
c) Should I go back to S&D 1.5?

Thank you for any and all answer.

.. in other words, don't go back to an older version - as so many times has happened before, the newer version is more thorough and trouble-free even if it does seem 'slower'.

You absolutely don't want to deal with (13pp!):

Also,to add to that, updates usually come out weekly, usually on Wednesday.
One minute is a bit of a start time, but not too bad.You could try shutting down some non-essential things,if there are any running, and see if the startup time is any quicker. :)
