Hi, I'm a newbie here. I have tried to set up a schedule to "Search and Destroy" but when the allotted time comes, all that happens is that Spybot "flashes" in my Taskbar and then nothing. What am i doing wrong?

Hello,

Do you have admin rights?
Did you enter a password?
When you get this error message:
“0x80070005: Access is denied" error message when you create a scheduled task in Windows XP Service Pack 2:
Article (http://www.2brightsparks.com/help/index.php?action=kb&article=59)
Microsoft Support (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B883605&x=10&y=12)

Also see:
Scheduled Tasks cannot run with a blank password

There is workaround for the password requirement in Windows XP.

Thank you. Being a novice, that looks a bit daunting to me. I guess I'll just do regular scans manually from time to time!

I also am a newbie. Please try and remember that y'all were at one time too.

All I am trying to do is to schedule my scan and the instructions say to click on "Add" and then "Edit" and I can't find that.

Loftus:

Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Settings > Scheduler > if the Edit button is grayed out click Add > click the Edit button. You should now be in the Spybot- Search and Destroy – Scheduled Task dialog. In the Task tab look at the "Run:" line of the dialog. You can add/change the "command line parameters" the end of the "Run:" line.

For additional information on scheduling parameters that can be used, see the following:
Are there any command line parameters?

Spybot uses the OS scheduler. In Windows XP the user account that adds the Schedule Tasks entry must have a password. See:
Scheduled Tasks cannot run with a blank password

There is workaround for the password requirement in Windows XP that 100mill (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=2965) was considerate enough to share with us. See the following thread:

I told you I am a newbie.

Where do I find this Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Settings > Scheduler ?

Am I missing something on my computer?

Thanks

Duh!!

I found it. I have avoided that because it threatened me that I needed to be an advanced user.

Thanks for your patience.
