View Full Version : Possible audio affecting infection

Greetings, during the last two days I have experienced an anomaly regarding the audio from my pc that consisted of the inactivity of the sound signal. When I opened up the device manager there were no error notices on the audio drivers files. The pc showed no alteration on the sounds and audio devices segment on the control panel either. I decided to reinstall the audio driver anyway, and after the installation completed, the anomaly was fixed. When booting the computer the next day , I noticed that after logging on to windows, the startup sound was not heard, neither the rest of the sounds from the os. Before attemping to repeat the aforementioned procedures, I decided to roll up the volume and see if I get to perceive any sound. I opened windows media player before attempting this.After doing this , I perceived some audible sources not only from the media playback, but from the rest of the computers devices.I connected the old speakers to see if the anomaly came from the recent ones, but they also showed it.I repeated the aforementioned procedures, this time I connected and reconnected my speakers. When rebooting and loggin on to windows the anomaly was still present.

Take note that the audio can only be heard if I roll up the volume to near maximum levels. This occurred with my old speakers as well.


Note: The motherboard,sdram,processor, and one of the optical drives were emigrated to the antec case.

Asus P4SD-VL motherboard note: The motherboard originally shipped with the Sony Vaio PCV-RS520 desktop as a propietary component. The audio source I'm utilizing comes from its sound max integrated digital audio, which only version I could find was the one they only provide through sony support website. The information regarding the specifications of the motherboard and its parts has remained a mistery, for neither sony , nor asus provides any information about it.I would appreciate any information you could find about this motherboard, specially regarding the integrated audio driver version updates.

Thank you for your interest in responding to what has appeared to be a thread quite peculiar for your staff. lol. Anyway, regarding the cpu-id software I actually have it installed on my pc and have used it, but it does not provide the information that interests me, like a graphical schematic of the motherboard , its parts and components, bios and integrated audio upgrade information and its manual. This is due to the fact aforementioned of its propietary design.It has been an extensive research of mine as well as many of the owners of this motherboard to locate information about this board other than the one that esupport.sony.com provides, which is no revealing since the info that the website provides does not deviate from what is already known, and the files it provides for load are basically the ones the desktop in which this motherboard was contained within shipped .as for the Zg file it ended up being a malware that I recently deleted successfully on safe mode. Do you have any theories regarding the possible cause of this anomaly's occurence? any info youll like to share or ask from me just let me know. Again, thank you for your interest on this thread.

i dont think your volume issue has anything to do with malware.
if you removed "the Zg file" you can use hjt to remove the 04 leftover: never mind, dont see it in the list anymore.

you might try something like Everest free edition or another benchmarking utility. Sometimes these can return a lot of info, or try the Sony support/forum.

Greetings shelf life. Thank you for your alternatives for the extraction of information from my motherboard.The issue has been solved with the deletion of a malware removal program ( which did not appeared have caused the anomaly), the removal of the sound drivers ( Not that I didn't tried this approach, but now it seemed to work),and a removal of two registry scannner results. As to what has specifically caused the anomaly, it is still inconclusive since the apps removed did not caused any malfunctions previously and the approached utilized was considered and tried before. But anyway, I appreciate your responses.

My Top Ten
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS, (Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and software up to date.
2) Know what you are installing to your computer. A lot of software can come with unwanted add-ons. Do you trust the source?
3) Install, keep updated: antivirus and two anti-malware applications.
4)Dont click on links or install files you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting the message. Do you trust the source?
5) Dont click on adds/pop ups or offers from websites to install software.
6) Dont click on offers to "scan" your computer.
7) Set up and use limited accounts rather than administrator accounts.
8) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.
9) Install and understand the limitations of a third party software firewall.
10) If your habits include visiting or installing files from: warez, cracks etc or p2p networks you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
