I have tried and tried alsorts to put this down to another program, but the only thing I can put it down to is spybot S&D that's caused it. I say this because after restoring my computer to a previous full backup that I had made I installed S&D ONLY and the same thing happened again.

To put it simply, all the icons on program shortcuts on my desktop now have a blank file icon infront of them. The proper icons are still there, but they are hidden behind this other icon. I have tried resetting the icon cache, tried changing the icon on the shortcut to something else, but nothing works. I have even tried recreating the shortcuts again, but to no avail.

I have removed S&D but this doesn't solve the problem. I have even tried system restore but that doesn't work either. It is definately S&D that has caused this, but I just can't figure out what it has done to screw up the icons in this way.

It is only limited to the desktop icons. Start menu is completely fine. Anybody please help!!!

I'm running Vista. I've attatched a screenshot.......

Question: did you download spybot from the official home page?

see here: http://www.spybot.info/en/home/index.html

Also, does trying a complete remove and reinstall solve the problem?

complete removal instructions found here: http://www.spybot.info/en/howto/uninstall.html

Make sure when you go to the complete removal link you use Internet explorer to download the small fix. Follow all directions exactly. :) Then download and install the latest version!!

I think we can be pretty certain that ictcreations is installing version 1.6 since this is the current install on the Spybot web page and besides that ictcreations has already said that he/she has restored their computer back to a previous backup and reinstalled Spybot. I doubt that the user is installing an older version personally (but the user can correct me if I'm wrong) since this is the version download currently available on the Spybot web page for S&D. Besides that by "restoring" the computer an uninstall is not a concern here as well. Besides that the user is using Vista so another reason the version is likely the most current.

I'm wondering if version 1.5.0.20 would not cause this problem.

You might try restoring your computer once again....

When you do this all of the icons are okay.... right?

Then try installing version 1.5.20 to see if this makes a difference.

Btw, 129260, why do you use version 1.6 S&D but are using 1.5.2.20 version of teatimer?

Hmmm weird.......I honestly can say i have no idea what is causing the problem....sorry, you might have to wait for a team member for help on this issue....also, what font, background color, etc. do you use? Also what version of vista? Do you have all the latest updates? I'm just spit-balling because I have no idea what is causing this. I have never seen this before.....
