hi,

ok we will boot into safe mode to delete some files. might want to copy/paste this into notepad and save it to read in safe mode.

to help show all files you can do this:

FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,at the top click on> tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok

to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart, chose the first option from the list: safe mode once at the safe mode desktop:

navigate to C:\Program Files look for and delete:
rhcng6j0ejb9\rhcng6j0ejb9.exe

navigate to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ look for and delete: lphcjg6j0ejb9.exe

you can also do this in safe mode:

using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these and delete whats in the folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (will dump all your cached internet content including cookies)

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
----------------------------------------
reboot normally. looks like you have two antivirus? Mcafee and norton? two isnt better than one in this case. i would remove one via the add/remove programs panel.

rerun your updated anti-malware apps. last: post a new hjt log

Hi shelf life!

Thanks for the advice! I did everything you said... and I removed Norton from my machine. Hope everything looks a little cleaner this time... here's the new HJT log file:

That's great news!! Everything seems to be back to normal on my end. Hopefully that solved the problem. Thank you for your help and expertise... and thanks to you and your team for keeping this forum going. It's nice to know that there are honest and knowledgable people on the web to turn to when the bugs invade our machines. Cheers!

hi laserman,

ok good. thanks for the nice words. you are welcome. to be sure of no malware-you can run your updated antivirus and anti-malware. not all malware will show up in hjt log. best to rely on your "anti-" software. if you already did then don't worry about it.
happy safe surfing.

for your reference:

My Top Ten
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS, (Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and software up to date.

2) Know what you are installing to your computer. A lot of software can come with unwanted add-ons. Do you trust the source?

3) Install, keep updated: antivirus and two anti-malware applications.

4)Dont click on links or install files you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting the message. Do you trust the source?

5) Dont click on adds/pop ups or offers from websites to install software.

6) Dont click on offers to "scan" your computer.

7) Set up and use limited accounts rather than administrator accounts.

8) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.

9) Install and understand the limitations of a third party software firewall.

10) If your habits include visiting or installing files from: warez, cracks etc or p2p networks you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
