I have tried versions 1.4, 1.5.0.20 and 1.6.0.30 and non work for me.

I have posted threads as to what my problems were for both versions 1.5 http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=29644 and version 1.6 http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=31546

In a nutshell:
Version 1.5 crashes when shutting down my WIN98SE OS if Teatimer is running.
Version 1.6 does the same as above and also the Updates (SDUpdate.exe) will not work unless I use the updater from the Teatimer context menu.

I have uninstalled all prior remains of older version and even tried increasing my stack overflow by 4x's (which prevents the crash but will still hang the OS). Clearly there are resource issues that I cannot get around with any versions more current than version 1.3.

As far as version 1.4 is concerned there are no problems (does not crash on shutdown w/ Teatimer running and will update w/out any problems) the only problem I had is that the Help uses up to much memory. I get the message:
"There is not enough memory available for this task.
Quit one or more programs to increase available memory, and then try again."

Problem is the only program I have running is Spybot (other than necessary programs i.e. Antivirus, Dumeter, Calender that I use) and thus when I click "OK" it is Spybot that is closed.

There is no way around the fact that all versions more current than 1.3 are "resource hogs" relative to my computer which has 96 RAM.

I tried Version 1.4 as a last resort because unfortunately version 1.3 no longer gets updates any more (7/23/08) updates not available through the main Spybot interface.

I know that one can manually update (see below):

You can also download the updates manually:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Here is the direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe).
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

Can someone please answer these 3 questions regarding the manual updates:

1. I assume this will work for Spybot version 1.3... am I correct? (in other words if I double click on the executable it will update the way it should).

2. Is there any issues that might arise (other than potential "false positives")?

3. Can I rest assured that in the case there are "false positives" that these will be "rare" or at least very minimal and not run rampant throughout the "includes" data base?

I have found that I can deal w/ the "false positives" by either excluding them or preferably in some cases simply renaming a file to another name when a file path is concerned. Something I don't mind if it is a minimal issue.

Hello,

I absolutely not recommend this.
There is a reason that the old versions won't get updates anymore.
The new detection rules are not made for these versions.
