Hi Noob Here to this forum. What a great place for Malware removal info. My computer just got infected with some crazy stuff. I had just reinstalled windows on a new hard drive and hadn't yet installed my Zone alarm security suite yet. I went on a trip for three days and when I got back. bam.. IE (and Firefox for that matter) wouldn't search anything. Web sites were redirected, now SPybot S&D 1.6 won't run.. When I try to "Check for Problems" it freezes and an Error message comes up "There is no disk in the drive, Please insert a disk in the drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR2" I went and booted to SAFE mode and STILL the exact same problem. I cannot run Spybot. In advance I really appreciate any help I can get to fix this infection. BTW I DO have Zone Alarm installed now, but it doesn't seem to get rid of this problem. It WILL run but doesn't seem to want to find this bugger. Here is the HJT Log file for review. THANKS!!
BTW I am running a Anthlon 64 3800 2GHZ RAM

Ok, I downloaded Free Avira, and it found a Trojan called TR/Vundo.Gen, BDS/VB.BOI, TR/Dldr.Agent.kzt and a few others. I selected Avira to just delete them. Was that correct? My Zone Alarm Security failed to detect this (and I ran Spyware and Anti Virus searches like four times!). Hmmmm SO much for paying for an antivirus program huh? Anyway, the new Avira log and HJT Log is as follows. Thank you very much for any help!!!

Hello X2FLYA320,

Apprantly you missed this forum's sticky topics. :p:

"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
Because of the volume of posts to your own topic, helpers would think you were already being assisted as they look for topics with no response.

We ask for one HJT log, there are four in this thread.

The Waiting Room: Post here if waiting for help longer than four days (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=37)

Regards. :)

Oh man you are right. I read that way too quickly! Sorry about that. I can see how my post would have been overlooked. I thought I was being helpfull with those HJT logs after I ran some antivirus programs. I will post in the older than 4 day section now. Thank you for responding.
Cheers

Hi X2FLYA320

We will begin with ComboFix. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Not sure if it's related. but I think it is. I keep getting an error message at windows startup saying.

Error Loading G:\windows\system32\qqyhphao.dll

would you happen to know what this might be or how to fix it? Thank you!
Cheers,
Greg

Yes, it happened because Ad-Watch is on.

See here (http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal:_Temporarily_Disable_Real_Time_Monitoring_Programs#Ad-Aware_Ad-Watch) how to disable it.

After that:

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BM03bd692b] Rundll32.exe "G:\WINDOWS\system32\qqyhphao.dll",s

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log.

There are other bad entries left.

Please disable Ad-Watch and keep it disabled.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
G:\Documents and Settings\Greg\lsass.exe
G:\WINDOWS\system32\wdbgvmvd.dl
G:\WINDOWS\system32\qqyhphao.dll

Folder::
G:\WINDOWS\system32\carH18

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"BM03bd692b"=-

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Shaba,
I hope I didn't screw anything up, but after I thought everything was fixed I ran a windows update to SP3. So if things are different or I screwed something up I apologize!

Well you could have screwed up but luckily not this time :)

Where has AntiVir gone?

X2FLYA320
2008-08-18, 21:43
Whew. Good. :) Well, I had like three antivirus programs running I think, (Zone alarm, Adaware, and Antivir), so I uninstalled AntiVir, since it was the free one. SHould that be the one to keep? Oh I also had/have spyware doctor 6.0 . What would you reccomend from now on?
Thanks!
Greg

You didn't have three antiviruses :)

Zone Alarm is a firewall, Ad-Aware and Spyware Doctor are antispyware programs.

So please re-install AntiVir.

X2FLYA320

Zone Alarm is the security suite, which has an antivirus program you can turn on and off. I will turn it off and re install AntiVir since it was the program which found my trojans. (zone alarm and the others did not!) Thank you so much for all your help! Is it completely cleaned now?
Thank you
Greg

Ah, I see.

We run one scan to be sure:

Please go to Kaspersky website (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) and perform an online antivirus scan.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Then you're clean!

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Now lets uninstall ComboFix:

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

Next we remove all used tools.

Please download OTCleanIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTCleanIt.exe) and save it to desktop.

Double-click OTCleanIt.exe.
Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTCleanIt attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:

Windows XP System Restore Guide (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html)

Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com (http://www.windowsupdate.com) regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a new and powerful anti-malware tool. It is
totally free but for real-time protection you will have to pay a small one-time fee. Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found below:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Setup Guide (http://www.bfccomputers.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1644)

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Scanning Guide (http://www.bfccomputers.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1645)

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html)

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Winpatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/) <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software (http://www.winpatrol.com/features.html)

Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php) <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Also, please read this great article by Tony Klein So How Did I Get Infected In First Place (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279)

Happy surfing and stay clean! :bigthumb:
