WHAT HAPPENED !!! - downloaded updates and it installed the new 1.6 version - when i logged out of the admin user on my machine and logged back in to the regular user - it gave me two errors about corrupted personal settings files and when i pass those warnings i come up to a pristine empty user - oh, please tell me how to recover my desktop and all personal settings!!!
i trust spybot so much i updated two computers at the same time and BLAST - they are both messed up the same way.
the original admin users on both machines seem to be "ok" but how can i trust spybot now.
ps: and - like where is the smiley face that shows someone freaking out and swearing up a blue streak ???

long-time-fan:
There is a problem with Spybot and corrupted user profiles. According to Patrick Kolla the problem only occurs under a very limited set of circumstances. If you had rebooted the system at this point everything most likely would have returned to normal. See:
Spybot Corrupting user profiles
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=25448
There is an issue when you kill the Spybot-S&D process and then switch users, or switch users while it is still running, since it's trying to scan those and locking them. After a reboot (or closing Spybot-S&D) it'll be ok again.
That has nothing to do with uninstalling (except that uninstalling will terminate a running Spybot-S&D as well of course).

In other words when running a scan or if you have aborted a scan don't log onto another user.
Fri. nite I ran S&D & ended up with version 1.6.0.31 & I don't have sound.
I have looked endlessly for how to recover to the prior settings in the registry with no luck at all. Can anyone help & redirect how to accomplish this task??
oh, please tell me how to recover my sound. Vi.

have been too busy working to reply - BUT - the advice about "if you had rebooted then" actually worked the following day - when the personal settings were trashed after the update, i stopped everything to see if the forums had any advice - after the quick response from
md_user_spybot_fan
i rebooted and the computers were both ok again.
guess i just never hit that "very limited set of circumstances" before during an update -
everything seems fine again....
(add smiley face for happy camper)
Thanks,
