 This is really ridiculous. I've researched this thing for over a week. Since following instructions for downloader removal didn't work, I figure I will be more specific in the name of the infection.

Norton's Antivirus (with the latest updates) does not see it. McAfee doesn't see it. Grisoft's AVG finds it, but upon attempting to remove it displays a message that the file cannot be accessed. (Then what good is telling me about it?)

Spybot does not detect it. Ad-aware does not detect it. Spyblaster does nothing about it.

I have attempted to remove it by clicking the line that in HiJackThis, but it reappears. If I run the computer in Safe Mode, the infection is not detected at all by any program.

Once, I reboot the computer, the virus is detected as soon as AVG has finished loading.

The registry was edited to remove the line mentioned, but it reappears upon reboot.

Use of msconfig to disable specific actions for reboot only results in those actions being automatically enabled. Diagnostic startup results in a selective startup. Disabling all actions results in all actions being disabled except the three I don't want enabled.

VCleaner from Grisoft to remove other downloader.****.*** does not remove this strain.

Symantec does not have this strain listed. Grisoft doesn't have this strain listed. McAfee doesn't have this strain listed.

I am at my wits end. I have a laptop that I use for problem solving, but I need my desktop for everything else.

Thanks, in advance.

hi

Download and Save Blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml) to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

next: download findqool.zip from here
http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/FindQool.zip
save it to your desktop
next unzip its contents to c:\FindQool
then open the folder, doubleclick on Qlocate.bat, once its finished a notepad window with text will open
copy/paste the contents of that window here
