I've been working for a couple of days to recover from a Trojan Horse infection and a virus. My troubles began when AVG reported bindsrv2.exe Trojan horse SHeur.BZMW and Virus found Lop. I have since run the Blacklight Rootkit, Cwshredder, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Malware Remover, CCleaner, AVG Free 8.0, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, Rogue Remover, Fix-Protocol-zone-ranges.reg, Cleanmgr, turned off system restore (oops), and finally poured over my Hijackthis results for a few hours.

I apologize for taking these steps before posting. I have now read the "Before you Post" sticky and hopefully I've not gone too far astray. My computer appears to be functioning well. Does my Hijackthis log reveal any obvious problems? Thanks so much in advance for any advice. dm

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I don't see evidence of malware in the HJT log. What do Ad-Aware, Windows Defender and AVG 8 tell you?

Thanks

Thank you for your time pskelly. I absolutely read the "Before you post" link before I posted and I read it again for good measure. :) As I noted, I wish I'd read it before I started "fixing".

I'm rerunning Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and AVG 8 tonight. The last time I ran them they reported I was clear.

I had a difficult time getting rid of the 015 references. I ended up using this link to solve the problem:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fix-Pr...nes-ranges.reg

Again, I apologize for perhaps muddying the waters. I will reply again tomorrow to confirm the results of the above scans.

Thank you!

For reference purposes my first HJT log looked like this:

Yikes, I'm not as clean as I thought. I provide info on the three programs you suggested I run (ran them in safe mode) and another up to date HJT log. Thanks so much pskelly for any advice. I very much appreciate your help. BTW, the computer did all the classic XPSecurityCenter stuff a couple of days ago, but had not since I'd thought I'd "fixed it". Maybe I have now? dm

Ad-Aware run in safe mode revealed 127 cookies and three other privacy items (the log file does not want to open; something about activeX I think).

Windows Defender run in safe mode found Program:Win32/XPSecurityCenter in file: ...\Temp\Binaries1.zip->XPSecurityCenter.exe->(Upack) in containterfile: ...\Temp\Binaries1.zip. Windwos Defender reported that it removed it. Last time I ran WD I did not allow WD to take action, doh!

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, the ProtocolDefaults issue is caused by the malware and you used the tool I would have used had I been working with this HJT log:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 2:18:55 AM, on 8/10/2008

Ad-Aware run in safe mode revealed 127 cookies
Here is information to help you control what cookies you allow:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/privacy/config.mspx

This HJT log looks clean of malware: Scan saved at 5:55:54 AM, on 8/14/2008

If you do not use these Dell redirects remove them with HJT like this:
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run a day or two and then let me know how the computer is running. I will post this information for you now so you can benefit from it.

Some good information for you:
