Hi jimmyD

Rename HijackThis.exe to jimmyD.exe and post back a fresh HijackThis log, please :)

hi Shaba...

thanks for your help...

system seems to have settled down for now...but same symptoms ('your system is infected' popup constantly showing up and directing to site to buy solution, blocking of some other antivirus sites, etc.) showed back up quickly after previous S&D run...also might have started interfering with wireless connection capability as I had unexplained problems with it...

I ran S&D in safe mode again a couple of times...didn't really indicate that it did anything but problems appear gone for now...I'm just concerned that there's still something lurking in there...

I notice buritos and braviax in the log which I thought avast! had called out and isolated and don't know what that's all about...I have taken no other action at this point...

here's new HijackThis (jimmyD) log as requested...

thanks again...Jim

We will begin with ComboFix. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

hi Shaba...

had some trouble installing Recovery Console per the instructions but completed it using other Microsoft instructions that I found...it's out there as a boot option now...

also, some of the ComboFix screens have changed but I think that has run successfully, too...I was excited to see XPSecurityCenter stuff being deleted because that's how this initially showed up...

here's ComboFix log and new HijackThis log...

thanks...Jim

Yes, looks better :)

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\awizyzopo.scr
C:\Program Files\Common Files\bywyxylera.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\Jim\Application Data\yxabaduku.bat
C:\Program Files\Common Files\opadi.reg
C:\Program Files\Common Files\apimufah.bin

C:\WINDOWS\qafe.reg
C:\WINDOWS\hymebirik.bin
C:\WINDOWS\liqovo.scr
C:\WINDOWS\kubiwalip.bin
C:\WINDOWS\mufiqity.vbs

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

There are still some other bad files.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\Program Files\Common Files\izudosu.com
C:\WINDOWS\ifakixa._dl
C:\WINDOWS\yborijeji.db
C:\WINDOWS\ybupemute._dl
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xaqezohog.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\eraluhezos.bin
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cykywi.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nizesozak.dll
C:\WINDOWS\udutiwu.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gosyx.ban
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dahuwoxa.com
C:\WINDOWS\notalyp.db
C:\Program Files\Common Files\rexeh.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\_scui.cpl
C:\WINDOWS\yxewixusoj.lib
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fidygecek.vbs
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yjuwyn.bin
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipumu.bat

Looks better :)

Please go to Kaspersky website (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) and perform an online antivirus scan.

Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button: Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives
Click on My Computer under Scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Empty this folder:

C:\QooBox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

All other viruses are in system restore and inactive.

I give you later instructions how to empty it.

Other than that, any problems left?

Shaba...

thank you for all of your time and help !

I know of no other problems but let me ask a question...is XPSecurityCenter a valid program that was usurped?...or is it completely bad software?

I now see a shield with an exclamation point in my system tray(?) that looks like something that I saw associated with XPSecurityCenter when I had the worst of my problems...is this shield icon which says updates are available for my computer OK to click?...or will I get in trouble again for opening it?...

It is a rogue program.

Those are likely windows updates. I think it would be safe to install them.

Great :)

Before all clean we need to remove some Norton leftovers.

Download and run this (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=bar_sch_nam&docid=2004092711224136&nsf=nip.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=ag)
and post back a fresh HijackThis log, please.

Since this issue appears to be resolved ... this Topic has been closed. Glad I could help.

Note: If it has been five days or more since your last post, and the helper assisting you posted a response to that post to which you did not reply, your topic will not be reopened. At that point, if you still require help, please start a new topic and include a fresh HijackThis log and a link to your previous thread.

If it has been less than five days since your last response and you need the thread re-opened, please send me or your helper a private message (pm). A valid, working link to the closed topic is required.
