Please take the time to read the directions I posted for you:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288

Please do not attach or link to infected files!
If an analyst requests files s/he will give you a link to upload them.

All logs should be copy/pasted into topic and not attached unless requested by helper in that format.
anything else will just slow your process

copy/paste the combofix log using more than one post if necessary.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your combofix log, I am having issues being sure this item is safe:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CICache] CICache.exe
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=CICache.exe&btnG=Google+Search
It is probably ok, but we must be sure, if you don't know it make sure you can view all files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
navigate to that file (search for it) and scan it here:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/
You only need one scan, giving you three in case they are busy, post the results.

The balance of the HJT log looks clean.

For your information:

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may results in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

2) C:\DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS~1\Rolland\LOCALSETTINGS~1\Temp\RGI5.tmp <<< delete that file, you may delete the contents of that Temp folder if you wish, a few old files may not delete.

3) C:\VundoFix Backups <<< delete that folder and the contents

4) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Tell me how the computer is running now.

Thanks...Phil

Thank you. I have followed your instructions except for #2. I cannot locate that file. I browsed for it and searched, cannot locate it. Maybe the ATF cleaner got rid of it? Everything else I have done as instructed. The log is below.

You are probably right, ATF-Cleaner cleaned that Temp folder also. I wanted a doublecheck because that file was reported as hidden:

C:\DOCUME~1\Rolland\LOCALS~1\Temp\RGI5.tmp
scan completed successfully
hidden files: 1
Unless I am missing something I did not get the information about this item:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CICache] CICache.exe
Read my last instructions from the top, then find that file, scan it and post the results, unless you know it is safe.

Most of what MBAM found are in the combofix quarantine and infected System Restore files which we will adress soon. This is the next bridge we need to cross:

I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not have access to Recovery Console via a Windows CD, I strongly advise you to install this tool.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/RC1-4.gif

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

I think I got a little punchy because I deleted the CICache file. It has not affected anything that I can tell.

Here is the log you requested.

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe

No problem, just hope you did not need that file. Some information about RC.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

Recovery Console is a tool that will allow you to recover from a catastrophic system failure, so let's hope you never need it. Many experts believe Microsoft should have installed it by default.

Remove combofix from your computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z176/EPL47/CF_Cleanup.png

Clean the infected System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Run a new MBAM scan to be sure we got it all, no need to post a clean scan results.

Update Avast4 and run a system scan to be sure it is working correctly and scanning clean, let me know.

I'll post this information for you now so you can benefit from it.

Thank you for your assistance! The MBAM found nothing and Avast found nothing. I also ran a Spybot scan and it found nothing.

I read the links you provided and have installed the spyware software recommended so hopefully this does not happen again. :hair:

Thanks again!!!!
