Please could someone have a look at this HJT log . I did turn off system restore yesterday (sorry, bad advice from a friend).I have tried running Spybot in safemode option but to no avail.I also tried Killbox & RemoveonReboot, also no good.Spybot does detect viirtumonde but tells me to restart the scan. I am on a laptop having used a pendrive to copy the log. Thanks in anticipation.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

It can be tricky to remove because so much of the infection is hidden. If you don't kill it, it morphs and comes back. This is a clue:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsucrpkq.dll

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Upon running Combofix it throws up a message telling me there is a date error ?

pskelley
2008-08-21, 22:07
Make sure the date is correct in the System Tray:
Right click the clock in System Tray and click Adjust Date/Time then make sure it is correct.

This is one of the most used tools for malware there is, if you can't get it to run, ask someone with more computer experience to give you a hand.

Thanks

Yo Sam, thanks for returning your information, proceed carefully like this and in the numbered order.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

Save this as CFScript

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0011-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_11) -
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jrwzjy.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may results in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

How is the computer running now? Any malware issues?

Thanks...Phil

Hi phil, i have only just finished doing what you advised. so far no problems.

One thing I noticed at one point was explorer.exe was trying to access the internet,is this normal?

Secondly 020 -AppInit_DLLs: jrwzjy.dll didn't appear after the HJT scan so i couldn't fix it. Anyway here are the logs before I hit the pit for the night

Thanks for returning you information, you asked:

One thing I noticed at one point was explorer.exe was trying to access the internet,is this normal?
explorer.exe is the Windows Program Manager or Windows Explorer. It manages the Windows Graphical Shell including the Start menu, taskbar, desktop, and File Manager. By removing this process the graphical interface for Windows will disappear. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
Malware can use the same name, but I have not seen this in recent memory.
The explorer.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows.

020 -AppInit_DLLs: jrwzjy.dll was removed by the script, HJT was a double check.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\ <<< update your Java program, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

C:\!KillBox <<< delete that folder and contents if you are finished with Killbox.

C:\VundoFix Backups <<< delete that folder and contents

Remove combofix from your computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean infected System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Let's check the resident AV, update AntiVir and run a system scan to make sure the program is running right and scanning clean, let me know.

I will post this information for you now so you can benefit from it.

Hi Phil, everything seems OK now.
The Avira scan did pick up a trojan which was hidden in something I had downloaded via a newsgroup, but I deleted and hopefully that is the end of it.

Does some of the SB donation get passed on to people such as your self ?

Either way I'll make a donation. And finally ( as I assume thats it) I would just like to thank you for all your assistance and advice as you have saved me from formating the HD.If there was such thing as cyber beer, a couple would be winging their way as we speak.

Thanks for the feedback. All of the helpers are volunteers and your thanks is what we work for. Be careful, it is a cyber-jungle out there, just a small example.
