Just a little help with my HJT log please

Hi,

I've been running Vista and IE7 for about a year. My Dell Laptop really bogged down over time. For some reason SP1 for Vista was not included in the auto updates so I plan to do it manually. Before I do I want to clean up the PC. I have also been using McAfee for my firewall and ran McAfee QuickClean which seems to have helped. I may start running AVG after I complete the clean up and upgrade.

To do my clean up I downloaded HJT, SpyBot and CCleaner. So far I've run HJT but am at a loss as to which of the files I should delete. The log file is attached below. I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks,

I am not sure how much I can help, keep in mind that I do not own Vista, but I will do what I can. Let me say first that I don't see any malware in this HJT log. We will run a quick scan to look for hidden stuff. Let start with some information for you.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

Thanks Phil for the detailed help. I’m glad to hear you didn’t see any malware.

I went through the steps you outlined above. I had already done some of the steps previously such as defrag and Disk Clean Up and it helped a little. The one thing I did learn in the Vista article was how to use and understand the Performance Monitor. In process I uncovered what I think is the real root of the problem with my Dell laptop’s performance. There is a Dell resource hog called MediaDirect (file is PCMservice.exe) that had a serious bug causing memory leakage and lead to serious performance issues. In hindsight I could have found this just using Task Manager. PCMService.exe was consuming 60+% of my memory so total memory usage was going between 80% -98%! Dell has a patch they released just days after I bought the laptop. I’ve downloaded it but not yet loaded it. I wanted to do the MBAM scan you suggested first. Detailed log below. No serious malware found but please let me know if you see anything.

I’ve already upgraded Vista to SP1 and I’m hopeful this Dell patch will do the trick. If you don’t hear back from me then it means I was successful.

Hey Mik, thanks for the feedback. I own two Dells and I went back to look at the log for Dell Junk as a result of your comments. I used to be able to say Dell had great tech support, I can no longer say more than they have a fairly good computer at a fairly good price. Once the warranty is gone, so is the tech support. Oh Michael Dell, why have you killed the goose that laid the golden egg?
