Hello and thank you for taking the time to assist.
I am unsure if my notebook is virus free and would like your help.
I started out ltrying to work out why my dvd rom is no longer working and also remove a program from the start up and discovered an item called kybtecwccaller.exe. no idea what it is-google led me to find many forums but no real answer. the upshot is finding these forums made me think there may be other problems. Can you pls check as the notebook does take a while open at times. I am including a pre and post spyboot HJT log. I hope I have included them the correct way and in the right forum.

Hello

yes this is now my personal notebook. I bought it 2nd hand from a friend who worked at that company when they did some upgrades. it was cleaned of all their stuff but does seem to still have its anti virus through the business. not sure how or why?! I have and it has no connection to westan anymore. Hope you can still help me.

G'Day Misch, be glad to do all I can to help, just wanted to be sure we followed protocol. We can remove the Westan information from your computer if you are sure it does not apply to your Internet Service Provider.

O4 - Startup: KybtecWcCaller.exe <<< and you know nothing about this item being on the computer. Not a lot at Goggle either:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=KybtecWcCaller.exe&btnG=Search
There is really nothing else showing in the HJT log that looks like malware and since you said "sluggish" let's start you with this information:

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html

Let's find out what that .exe is, post an uninstall list like this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Search for KybtecWcCaller.exe and scan that file here:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/

You may need to unhide files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html and I posted a couple of extra scanners in case one is busy. Post that information for me to view. It is likely that item is in C:\Program Files\ but I am not sure of the name...the name of the .exe is a clue.

Let's also scan for hidden rouge junk with MBAM:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

To recap: you will start looking at that link, the slow computer may have nothing to do with malware and than information will help you.
Post the uninstall list, the information from the scan on the .exe, and the scan results from MBAM.

It's a start

Cheers...Phil

G'Day and thanks for returning your information, be aware about seven days without a response will get your topic closed, just a quick post to explain the wait will keep that from happening.

Uninstall list: I am looking for malware and security issues, hackers exploit out of date programs so it is best if you are going to use them that you keep them updated.

1) Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1 Professional <<< makes me think this program was purchased, but it still is out of date. If you can not update it free via the original license, I would download the newest Adobe Reader and uninstall all the other Programs and updates:

Adobe Reader 9.0
http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/

For your information, if you do not need to open pdf files (a choice between pdf and html is most often offered) You may not need Adobe, but it is free.

2) Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7 <<< leave the newest version and uninstall the rest, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

3) LimeWire 4.18.1 <<< see Safer Networking policy.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282

If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.

MBAM <<< why would you take no action here?

C:\WINDOWS\Logo1_.exe (Worm.Viking) -> No action taken.
