I've noticed a problem installing Spybot 1.6 on a couple of my machines, one of which is running XP SP3, the other W2K.
When I try to install I get the same error 5 times. After 5 clicks of Ignore installation continues.
Error writing to registry key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{hex key} (hex key details see attachment - this is the XP error)
RegSetValueEx failed; code 5
Access is denied.
Abort/Retry/Ignore
This registry area (XP) currently has the following values:
CLSID REG_SZ {1FBA04EE-3024-11D2-8F1F-0000F87ABD16}
ClsidExtension REG_SZ {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F}
Default Visible REG_SZ Yes
MenuStatusBar REG_SZ Configure how Spybot - Search & Destroy protects your IE.
MenuText REG_SZ Spybot - Search & Destroy Configuration
No (Default) value is set.
I am an administrator of both PCs. I am running McAfee Anti-virus on these machines.
The only problem I notice in Spybot is that Immunize fails to completely immunize for Internet Explorer - 9046 Secure Domains, 1 Cookies and 306 Domains are not immunized. Hosts is OK.
Any ideas? Is this a known issue?
