Hello Robusto,

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
Expand the "Tools" menu.
Click "Resident".
Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

----------------------------------------------- Step 2

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

Hello RiP ChAiN,

Thanks for your help so far. I unckecked the "Teatimer", and downloaded ComboFix.exe. However the Recovery Console gave me a bit of a problem.
My OS is Windows XP Media Edition with SP2. There was no Rec. Console available for my OS so I tried the XP prof. and XP Home edition.
By dragging it on top of ComboFix it gave the following error: corrumpted files please re-download.
So I did and ran ComboFix without installing a Recovery Console. By the way there is a seperate drive E: on my system with recovery files on it but not accesable for me.
In the attachment you will find the New HijackThis log file.
The ComboFix logfile was to big for an attachment so you will see it down here:

Hello Robusto,

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

----------------------------------------------- Step 2

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hgnjblrb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atsepfhw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml71.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kek.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpt.exe
Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"mpt"=-
"kek"=-

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Hello RiP ChAiN,

Thanks again for your quick response.
In the attachments you will find the "uninstall list" from HJ This and a new "ComboFix" logfile as you asked for.
By the way my PC is running much better now, Windows Automatic Update is running again and has new Updates for me. Should I install them or just wait untill you finished your repair sessions ??
I ran Spybot twice, the first time I had to remove a "double click virus", the second time there was nothing found on my PC !!?

Hello Robusto,

Please wait to install any new updates until after we finish this out, there will be less chance of interference that way. I think we're getting close to the end here :)

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service (http://virscan.org/)
Copy and paste the following file path into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\atsepfhw.exe

Click on the Upload button
Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.

----------------------------------------------- Step 2

Using Add Or Remove Programs remove the following entries (if present): (To get into add Or Remove Programs press the START button > Control Panel > Add Or Remove Programs. ))

Azureus Vuze
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7

----------------------------------------------- Step 3

Please download JavaRa (http://prm753.bchea.org/click/click.php?id=9) to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder

Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
Accept any prompts.
Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Hello RiP ChAiN,

I had some problems with step 1. Entering the file path C:\WINDOWS\system32\atsepfhw.exe in the VirSCAN gave the error that the file could NOT be found. Looking for it on my computer with the search tool (incl. hidden maps etc.) it was Not found.
The latest ComboFix log starts with five files, the first one is the one I was looking for and did not find. The other four files I have found:

hgnjblrb.dll.vir C:\QooBox\Quarantine\C\Windows\system32
kek.exe.vir C:\QooBox\Quarantine\C\Windows\system32
mpt.exe.vir C:QooBox\Quarantine\C\Windows\system32
msxml71.dll.vir C:\QooBox|Quarantine\C\Windows\system32

"((((((( Andere Verwijderingen ))))" this rule in Dutch means "Other Removals" so could it be that the atsepfhw.exe file has been removed??
So there is no report from VirSCAN.org.
In step 2 I removed all the entries but after downloading JavaRa (step 3) I searched for the latest version of JRE and had to install Java(TM) 6 update 7.
This is the one I had just removed, is that correct?? I did a check on the Java site and they say I have their latest version.

Hello Robusto,

"((((((( Andere Verwijderingen ))))" this rule in Dutch means "Other Removals" so could it be that the atsepfhw.exe file has been removed??
If the file was listed under that, then yes it should have been removed. Could you also post the full combofix log here? It should be located at C:\ComboFix.txt

In step 2 I removed all the entries but after downloading JavaRa (step 3) I searched for the latest version of JRE and had to install Java(TM) 6 update 7.
This is the one I had just removed, is that correct?? I did a check on the Java site and they say I have their latest version.
There's also a Java SE 6 Update 10 RC version out, but it does appear to still be in beta. The one you have should be fine.

Hello Robusto,

Time for some housekeeping
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:

SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html) protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/res/ie-spyad.exe) puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial53.html)

* SpywareGuard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sgdownload.html) offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program or there will be a conflict.

Make Internet Explorer more secure

Click Start > Run
Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
Here (http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=60955)

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Hello RiP ChAiN,

I would like to thank YOU for your time and good advice !!!
It is great to know there are still people on this earth who like to help people having trouble with their PC like I did.
Spywareblaster, IE Spyad and MVPS Host file are installed on my system.
Windows Automatic Update is also running again (was my first problem).
Also made the changes in IE.
I didn't do anything with SpywareGuard because Norton 360 is running on my system.
In the near future I might surf the Internet by using Mozilla's Firefox Browser.

THANKS again for your help!!

Robusto
