Hi

I'm trying to fix a PC that belongs to a friend, it's pop up hell:)

I'd like to install S&D without putting it on my home network, is there any way to install S&D 1.6 without the PC trying to go online?

For previous PC's that I've cleaned up for people, I've been able to install S&D and then install the includes part without putting the PC online.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you can install Spybot without Spybot attempting to "connect" to the Internet, that is as long you untick "Check for Updates immediately".

However, be aware that the definitions won't be at it's latest.

You may also choose to visit the Malware Forums if you wish.

Hi (again!)

I'm afraid that having unchecked the box, when I try to 'check for problems', I get the following

"You need to install the detection updates first by using the integrated update or the manual updater'

I did download the detection updates and try to install them, but still get the same messge.

Any ideas on how to bypass this?

Thanks again

Was Spybot-SD successful in updating?

Can you try this link?

Hello,

When you untick the box for the updates during the install that is ok.
But before you run your first scan you need to install the detection updates first.

For more information on updating please have a look at this link on our website:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/update.html
You can also download the updates manually:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Here is the direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe).
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

If you do the direct link to the includes file, a further check against the md5 on the index.html is good practice (the better download websites usually include this information for a method of confirmation that the file is properly downloaded). The self-installer works fine (even with non-default installation locations/paths!). I usually also download to a date-named folder, as every spybotsd_includes.exe has exactly the same name even if they do change from week to week :D:

Thanks so much guys, I'm off an running.....which is a good thing as I now have another PC arriving on Friday!

The downside of working in IT Support is that all my friends think it's a 24/7 job, lol!

My other friend downloaded an ecard.....does he know who it's from....nope!

Aaaah well, gives me something to do of an evening:)

Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.I found a thread with SLIGHTLY more-detailed instructions last night, and I got everything installed, but I can't find that thread now.

Anyway, my main purpose for registering & posting was to ask for THOROUGH instructions to be added to either the FAQ or the tutorial. Right now, theres' no mention of the includes file in either - just a link on the download page, also withOUT instructions on how to use the includes file.
